Position Summary

For this position, we are looking for researchers with strong expertise in data science and machine learning, including causal inference, recommender systems, sports analysis, or related fields. Candidates should be capable of developing and evaluating such algorithms using real data from commercial services.
Sony group aims to engage with over 1 billion users through its direct-to-consumer (DTC) services. To achieve the goal as a research and development hub for the einter group companies, our team upholds the theme of "Human-Centered Data Science" and conducts research and development within the following scope:
Human as a Data Source:
- Acquiring customers and enhancing user engagement through personalization
- Understanding behaviors and extracting insights both online and offline
- Creating new experiences based on these technologies and insights
Human as a Data User:
- Developing AI and data science technologies that are user-friendly for data analysts and creators
- Enhancing interaction technologies for improved usability and effectiveness

Responsibilities

■ Research and develop machine learning algorithms
■ Propose novel customer value using machine learning and data science techniques
■ Design and develop prototype applications with development partners
■ Work closely with business divisions including entertainment, financial, and electronics domain in the Sony group
■ Publish research papers about these activities


Required qualifications

■ Master's or doctoral degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, econometrics or related fields
■ Proficiency in mathematics, statistical analysis, and data mining
■ Experience in data analytics projects on actual product data and applying machine learning models
■ 2+ years experience with Python programming
■ Ability to speak and write in English fluently.


Preferred qualifications

■ Experience with one or more of the following: causal inference, off-policy learning/evaluation, ITE/CATE estimation, multi-armed bandit problem, recommender algorithms, or similar.
■ Publishing research papers to top-tier conferences like NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, KDD, WSDM, RecSys or similar.
■ Experience in applying machine learning to solve problems of marketing, user engagement, and user interaction in commercial services.
■ Experience in handling both research and development, especially with business organizations.
■ Having Kaggle expert/master/grandmaster status
■ Strong interest in Japanese language and Japanese culture
