Product Owner
Location: Porto, Portugal
Department: Product Management - PMT
Product Owner
Porto, Portugal | Product Engineering | Medior and Senior | m/f/d
Why SOFICO
At SOFICO, we develop Miles, our enterprise software platform for automotive finance, leasing, fleet and mobility management. Our products support complex business processes throughout the lifecycle of a finance or leasing contract, from quotation and pricing to contract management, billing, assets, services and integrations.
We are looking for our office in Porto for Product Owners who bring strong business domain knowledge and want to turn it into software that creates lasting value for our customers. You may already be a Product Owner, or be a business analyst or functional consultant ready to take the next step into product ownership.
What the job is about
We are growing our Product team across several business domains, including Vehicle Catalogue, Finance, and Credit & KYC (Know Your Customer). Depending on your expertise and interests, you will take ownership within one of these domains, working closely with a Product Manager and a dedicated engineering team.
Working closely with the Product Manager, you translate the domain roadmap into a clear, prioritized backlog. You connect customers, implementation teams and engineering, balancing immediate customer commitments with improvements that can be reused across the global product.
Your domain’s APIs are products in their own right. You understand who uses them, which problems they solve and how changes affect consumers. You work with engineers and architects on the technical details; your focus is the value, usability and continuity of the API product.
What you will do
- Turn business problems and roadmap priorities into clear user stories, acceptance criteria and achievable team objectives.
- Own and refine the team backlog. Make transparent decisions about business value, urgency, scope and dependencies.
- Challenge customer requests constructively and turn individual needs into reusable, configurable product capabilities.
- Work with developers, architects and other domain teams to clarify requirements, resolve dependencies and support delivery.
- Validate delivered functionality against agreed acceptance criteria and gather feedback from customers and internal stakeholders.
- Include API consumer needs in product decisions, covering clear behaviour, documentation and the impact of changes.
- Use AI tools to support analysis, refinement and documentation, applying your domain judgement to validate their output.
Your skills and interests
You bring strong business knowledge gained in finance, leasing, asset finance, asset management or a related environment. You understand complex business processes and can translate them into clear product requirements and priorities. Relevant domain expertise matters more to us than your current job title: we also welcome business analysts and functional consultants with the ambition and openness to coaching needed to grow into product ownership.
- Experience as a Product Owner, business analyst, functional consultant or in a comparable role connecting business needs with software delivery.
- The ability to analyse complex processes, structure requirements and explain the business impact of a product decision.
- An understanding of APIs as standalone products with their own consumers and lifecycle. Coding and deep technical API expertise are not required.
- Experience working with Agile teams, or the ability and motivation to develop your product ownership skills. SAFe experience and PO certification are advantages.
- Clear spoken and written English, enabling effective collaboration with international colleagues and customers.
How you work
- You are curious and coachable: you ask thoughtful questions, welcome feedback and translate it into changes in how you work.
- You take ownership: you make timely decisions, follow through on commitments and raise risks before they become delivery problems.
- You build trust across business and engineering: you listen, adapt your explanation to your audience and make decisions and trade-offs clear.
- You combine customer empathy with product judgement: you understand the need behind a request and can explain why something should be prioritized, reshaped or deferred.
- You bring structure to ambiguity: you distinguish facts from assumptions, identify what needs clarification and help the team move forward.
Room to grow
If you bring strong domain expertise from a BA or functional consulting role, we value your ambition to become a Product Owner and your openness to coaching. Your scope will reflect your demonstrated product ownership capability.
What is in it for you
- A competitive salary package.
- A meal allowance for each working day.
- Fully covered private health insurance.
- Hybrid working and flexible hours.
- A modern co-working space with a comfortable working environment.
- Structured onboarding with a dedicated coach to support you as you settle into your role.
- Ongoing learning and opportunities for career development in an international, multicultural company.
- Regular opportunities to connect with colleagues through casual drinks, team activities and company events.
