The Siemens Certified Education & Talent Academy (SCETA) program combines theory and practice geared towards technical and professional new grads. It offers a wide array of technical, interpersonal, and business acumen training and places them in roles within various industry units within Siemens Canada.
The SCETA program starts with a 3-week paid orientation, and new grads complete a 5-month term beginning in May 2025. Once their SCETA terms are complete, proficient students may be hired full-time with Siemens.

What will you do?
The evolution toward a smarter grid is the most comprehensive, disruptive development confronting the energy business in more than a century. To help utilities realize the benefits of a more digital grid, Siemens is looking for a Software Developer to work in our Electrification & Automation Lab.
As a Software Developer, you play a critical role in helping Siemens achieve high performance in developing AI and data science solutions to analyze and optimize electrical grid performance. You will operate alongside team members of the Electrification & Automation group, building software solutions and exploring new ways of solving complex problems related to the energy domain.
- Analyze electrical grid structural and time-series data to identify patterns and develop optimization strategies.
- Develop and write code in Python or other object-oriented and functional languages following the team’s coding standards and development process.
- Provide reliable and quality design to a variety of problems and requirements using sound problem-solving techniques
- Utilize software development tools such as IDEs, configuration management systems, build processes, etc. daily
- Estimate level of effort, evaluate design options, offer suggestions and improve processes, and provide comments on software design aspects
- Add value and collaborate with the team by participating in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions.
- Produce communication and technical demonstration material, including system schematics
- Support machine learning projects via practical results analysis and experiments on the model
What will you need to succeed?
- University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 1+ years’ experience in software development or data analysis (may include summer employment or work terms)
- Knowledge of basic electric power system concepts
- Knowledge of machine learning principles
- Experience with data analysis tools and Business Intelligence principles
- Experience with AI technologies
- Experience with Agile Software Development process
- Excellent technical troubleshooter
- Excellent knowledge of French and English (spoken and written) to collaborate with colleagues and customer across Canada, US and Europe
The successful candidate for this position must be bilingual. Fluency in French and English (verbal and written) is required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position for the following reason(s)
- The role requires interacting with English-speaking customers and suppliers across Canada and/or internationally;
- The role requires regular interactions with Siemens colleagues based outside of Quebec, nationally and internationally;
