Area of responsibility

Works on merging the physical and virtual worlds via our executable Digital Twin methodologies by means of tackling and solving the associated research questions and challenges. Interfaces with colleagues from the research team, other research teams as well as different groups and departments (e.g. product development, product management). Develops, supports and manages executable Digital Twin demonstrators and associated hardware in our lab facilities. Also provides live demonstrations of these executable Digital Twins to customers and other stakeholders.

What you need to qualify for the role

Has a strong academic and/or professional background in mechatronics, with experience on both the associated hardware and software sides. Regarding hardware: test bench design (or similar) and microcontrollers (interfacing via e.g. serial communication protocols and programming). Regarding software: full stack web-based solutions like e.g. NodeJs/Angular/React and associated communication protocols like MQTT, REST Api, WebSockets etc. as well as “low-level” languages like C/C++/Python and being comfortable in using command-line interfaces, setting up operating systems, virtual machines or similar (e.g. Docker containers/architectures). These skills will allow to both solve the executable Digital Twin research questions and challenges, as well as to implement these solutions.

The candidate is open and eager to actively learn and explore new related methodologies and topics.

Assists more senior research engineers by executing well-defined project tasks and research studies within the broader scope of a research and technology innovation project. Focuses on high-quality results within an agreed timeframe including full documentation, method prototypes, test and analysis databases and reports as applicable. Works under close supervision for technical as well as project execution. Interacts with internal team members and external project partner engineers on task execution level within the boundaries of an agreed cooperation and task description framework. Presents research results to external partners under supervision of more senior engineers. Basic skills with moderate level of proficiency. Learns to use professional concepts. Develops competence by performing structured work assignments. Coaches students within the scope of assignments agreed with more senior engineers.
