Position Overview:

Siemens Mobility Customer Service is seeking a skilled Data Scientist Lifecycle Maintenance Analytics   to join our Innovation team and support our transformation via digital projects that directly impact the full lifecycle costs of our long-term maintenance contracts. You will possess strong analytical skills, communication skills, experience with data analytics and machine learning, and the ability to develop and maintain interactive dashboards. Ideally you will have experience in the rail industry, as well as an understanding of condition-based maintenance to predictive or prescriptive maintenance regimes augmented via digital technologies. 

This role is crucial for driving data-driven decision-making and process optimization across the Siemens Mobility organization.  You will work towards bridging our technical engineering team with our customer’s maintenance and IT teams. You will define requirements, deliver data-driven recommendations, and work with our customer’s key stakeholders in improving their maintenance services with innovative technology. Showing initiative is close to your heart.  This role can be remote with the US.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Key member within our web-application development team that calculates project lifecycle costs for our 20-years long maintenance contracts:
    • Data analytics
    • Drive data aggregation, data analysis, identify data quality issues
    • Collaborate with multi-functional teams (e.g. Engineering, Project Management, Procurement) to formulate business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
    • Data Engineering and implement robust data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from various sources into our Railigent data platform.
  • Drive our condition-based maintenance analytics to prevent failures of critical rail components:
    • Define conditional indicators for critical failure modes by collaborating with engineering and field-services teams.
    • Build rules or logic-based indicators using time-series data for key assets
    • Conduct data pre-processing, filtering, scripting, data integration from disparate sources, cloud databases. 
    • Develop dashboards using PowerBI, TIBCO Spotfire, or equivalent for real-time data display and identifies maintenance trends
    • Build light-weight apps via PowerApps, low-code/no-code app-dev, Mendix, or equivalent for real-time display of key maintenance trends
    • Communicate trends to different groups and management; right-sizing data and output display to different audiences. 
  • IoT and sensor-based project support to digitalize our assets for real-time data collection:
    • Support our team in installing the right sensor hardware on trains to collect data that measures the health-condition of a rail component
    • Define solution architecture including sensor end-points, aggregate nodes, gateways, cellular connectivity, communications, cloud data stores, APIs, configurations, etc.
    • Connect with internal Siemens stakeholders (e.g. Engineering) and 3rd party vendors to define a complete solution.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with software engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in data analytics, data science, or a related analysis field.
  • Experience in Agile Development.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Experience with IoT architectures.
  • Experience with machine learning algorithms and predictive modeling.
  • Expertise in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Grafana, Spotfire).
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills.
  • Setting you apart from others would be a Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience rail industry, energy industry, or transportation industry.  Certifications in data science or analytics (e.g., Certified Analytics Professional, Microsoft Certified: Data Scientist, AWS Certified Machine Learning) are preferred.

Siemens offers a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees.  Details regarding our benefits can be found here: https://www.benefitsquickstart.com/siemens/index.html.  The base salary range for this position in Sacramento, CA is $108,400 - $146,600 and in Pittsburgh, PA is $98,600 - $133,100 and in New York, NY is $118,200 - $159,800.  The actual salary/wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
