Position Overview
The Electrification & Automation (EA) Business Unit is growing steadily. We are looking for an Applications Engineer Team Lead. This role will be based in Wendell, NC.
The Team Leader will play a significant role in business generation of EA Business Unit, by leading and supporting the application engineering team on the preparation of comprehensive technical and commercial proposals and solutions that best fits our customer needs, while ensuring competitive pricing. The Engineer will work closely with Siemens Sales and Business Developer Managers to prepare offers with focus on Gas Insulated Switchgear, Pad-mounted Switchgear and Metal Enclosed Air Insulated Switchgear (Switches), supporting primarily Datacenter customers on technical, contractual, and commercial issues.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary point of contact within the Application Engineering team, for all Datacenter related enquiries coming from Sales and BDM team. Channel the requirement, and define next steps based on the specific needs.
- Lead and coordinate the proposal team to successfully develop technical and economic proposals that include Gas Insulated Switchgear or Pad mounted Switchgear from Siemens portfolio.
- Support with bid coordination activity. Review customer RFQ documents: Customer specifications, commercial/technical documents, product requirements. Identify and assign application engineer based on technical complexity, required due date and overall team loading.
- Close follow up of the overall GIS and Padmounted bidding activity, and ensure KPIs are In line within the business units targets (capability, on time reliability, etc)
- Interact with factories when needed to define, request and obtain premises required on specific customer RFQs to guarantee successful bidding and potential order intake (discount factor request, lead time requests, slots reservations).
- Act as Primary designated mentor for Application Engineer new hires. Prepare onboarding and training plan. Implement, develop and follow up with new hire until successful ramp up reached.
- When applicable, prepare layout and single line drawings at a minimum, to demonstrate the idea of the intended scope of work.
- Collaborate with Engineers within the Business Unit to generate technical solutions for the Siemens suite of products.
- Prepare RFQ packages for third party products (transformers, battery systems, HMI cabinets, control boxes, etc ) and work closely with Procurement team to secure the quotations.
- Work closely with the Project Management (PMO) team for an efficient and effective handover of the project from the Bid Phase to the Project execution phase, upon winning the project.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
- 5+ years engineering experience in an EPC, engineering, manufacturing, utility, industrial corporate environment or similar.
- Experience in the design and application of electrical distribution products with a focus on medium voltage metal clad, metal enclosed switchgear products and/or Transformers.
- Knowledge and experience evaluating Single line drawings, schematics, relay protection & control schemes, communication network diagrams and related engineering documents.
- Financial knowledge to understand and participate in ongoing business planning and support the product as well as project lifecycle management processes.
- Experience with Electrical and 2D Layout drawing tools such as AutoCad, Visio, etc.
- Travel Required – Less than 10%.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Candidate to have work authorization that would permit them to work within the United States.
- Candidate on Raleigh/Wendell, NC area.
- Excellent collaboration, leadership, and decision-making skills in a team environment, and demonstrated ability to perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks while maintaining excellent customer service.
- Excellent communications skills to effectively and accurately communicate with internal and external customers
- Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL and NEMA standards for power distribution applications and the best practices. In specific for Medium Voltage switchgear and pad mounted Swgr.
- Ability to identify market trends and using this information, work closely with Marketing and Technology to create and justify projects to close the identified gaps.
- Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office tools and willingness to learn product configuration/pricing applications.

- The pay range for this position is <$73,500 - $126,000>. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
