Two of our Backend Teams are hiring so you will get the opportunity to work with either Content Intelligence or Search. 

Content Intelligence is the platform for managing Shutterstock asset metadata. We refer to assets the following:

• Photos

• Videos

• Editorial (Photo and Video)

• Music and SFX (sound effects)

We are responsible for ensuring that Shutterstock Asset Metadata can be stored/retrieved for/by any Shutterstock Client at any time, in near-real time.

The Search team drives the core functionality behind one of the largest search engines on the web. We ensure that our rich content is efficiently indexed and made discoverable through sophisticated, data-driven algorithms. With millions of searches processed daily, we take pride in managing essential services that directly impact the business. As part of the team, you'll gain hands-on experience in diverse areas including microservices, data analysis, algorithm design, infrastructure, cloud services, and build pipelines. This is an opportunity to make a real impact while learning the inner workings of a high-performance search engine.

About the Internship:

You will be working with highly motivated and extremely talented engineers on full stack services with quality, performance, and scale in mind at every step of the way. Our core belief is that the customers are our number one priority so we work hard to deliver value back to them with everything we do. We believe strongly in team ownership of systems, which includes defining the vision of the services to prioritization of projects.

You will join a diverse and international team based out of our Dublin offices, which are located at Sir John Rogerson's Quay.  Remote, hybrid or on-site positions can be supported.  

The day to day:

• Participate in all aspects of the services under the team’s ownership, which includes design, implementation, automated testing, deployment, and uptime of the services.

• Participate in the code review process, paired programming.

• Work alongside engineers, product managers and designers on the development of the services under the team's ownership.

• Building the technology the right way: for us, this means simple, well-tested systems that gradually grow over time, and that provide plenty of insight into production performance.

• Regular 1:1's with your manager, mentor and other teams across Shutterstock.

• Learning and living the company values.

Ideal candidate would have the following:

• Currently pursuing a  Bachelor’s, Master’s OR  PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, MIS or other  other technology related fields.

• Must be eligible to work in Ireland without company sponsorship, now or for the duration of the internship.

• Passionate about what you do and care deeply about the things you build.

• Able to clearly communicate with team members. 

• Natural curiosity for learning new technologies. 

• This role is targeted at university students who are seeking a 6 month placement from Jan-Aug 2025 as part of their degree programme. Please note that this is not a graduate program. 

We use the following tech stack so ideally you will have some familiarity with any of the following technologies:

• Java, Ruby, Python or Scala

• SQL

• Git, Github

• Javascript frameworks such as React or Next.js 

• Node.js

• Knowledge of relational and non relational database technologies

• An understanding of continuous delivery.

• Knowledge or skills in writing unit tests, integration tests and automated testing.
