Job Description

In order to support SEGULA’s growing Engineering Department, working as a Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the technical delivery and provision of technical solutions from design through to test and validation for rolling stock. You will be working on industry rolling stock modification projects within a global company, with clients throughout the rail sector.

The ideal candidate will have a solid and extensive background of working in design, commissioning & maintenance of rail vehicles. You will forge business relationships within the market space and be expected to drive marketing campaigns and thought leadership. Building international relationships within the company group to promote a global delivery model. You will line-manage a team of engineers, ensuring that staff are appropriately utilised and their individual development is fully supported. At a project level, you will work as a Lead Engineer, acting as a conduit between the project management function and centres of excellence within the SEGULA Group. You will be expected to maintain an overall view of the engineering function from requirements capture, concept, detail, installation through to test and validation

Main responsibilities will include:

• Acting as Chief Engineer for system integration and/or test and validation of rolling stock.
• Business development and sales.
• Forging business meetings within the market space.
• Running marketing campaigns and producing thought leadership articles in line with the business growth strategy.
• Scoping of engineering tasks and providing cost estimates for bid support.
• Building international relationships within the company group to promote a global delivery model.
• Line-managing a team of people. 
• Supporting the UK business in the delivery of fully-integrated system integration packages.
• Managing resource, budget, project and commercial risk for the successful delivery of project.
• Helping to develop junior members of the team to enhance their competency and the range of skills.
• Providing impartial input to rolling stock projects as an independent checker, helping to ensure a consistent and high level of quality across all the work that we deliver.
• Delivery of high-quality engineering design work for allocated design packages, within defined timescales and to the required quality.
• Presentation of SEGULA Value Proposals and Case Studies.
• Site visits to client and supplier premises for the purposes of conducting design surveys and completing first article inspections, test and validation activities and build support.
• Good communication and teamwork skills to ensure that your work is developed in accordance with the requirements of the team and the project.

Qualifications

• Qualified to degree / HNC / HND standard (or comparable qualification) in the relevant engineering discipline.
• Min 10 years of experience in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering within a rolling stock environment.
• Experience in managing the whole engineering lifecycle, including test, installation and commissioning of a rail vehicle.
