UI/UX Intern

About the role

This is a hands-on internship, not a shadowing programme. You'll own small, real pieces of work end to end and see them ship, to customers, or to the store teams who serve them.

Two things make this different from a typical design internship:
• You'll design for staff, not just customers. A meaningful share of our product work is the internal Staff Portal. Our store teams live on every day stock counts, order handling, prescription entry, café operations. It's less glamorous than a landing page and far more interesting: real users, sitting a short drive away, who will tell you exactly what's broken.
• You'll design across the online/offline seam. A customer might browse on the app, try frames on in a store, and have their order finished at a lab. Most of our hardest problems live in the handoffs between those steps.

What you'll do

Design (≈50%)
• Turn problem statements into user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity screens
• Work across our customer app and website, the Staff Portal, and in-store ordering flows
• Contribute to and help maintain our design system and component library
• Prepare handoff specs and answer engineering questions during the build

Research & discovery (≈25%)
• Talk to customers and to store staff, opticians, retail associates, café teams
• Run usability testing sessions and write up what you found
• Review competitors and benchmarks on specific flows
• Help turn support tickets, app reviews, and analytics into design problems worth solving

Quality & documentation (≈25%)
• Design QA before release, catching where the build drifted from the intent
• Document flows, edge cases, and decisions so the team can find them later
• Join sprint ceremonies, UAT sessions, and release reviews

Examples of work an intern might own
• Improving the frame discovery experience for someone who has never bought glasses online
• Simplifying a step in the daily stock count that store teams currently find slow
• Designing clearer order status communication while lenses are in production
• Adapting an existing flow for our Malaysia market

What we're looking for

Must have
• A portfolio showing your process, not just final screens; we want to see how you got there
• Working knowledge of Figma (components, auto-layout, prototyping)
• Ability to explain a design decision out loud and defend it under questioning
• Clear written communication in Bahasa Indonesia and English
• Genuine curiosity about why people behave the way they do
• Comfort with ambiguity and unfinished problems

Nice to have
• Any exposure to retail, e-commerce, or internal/operational tools
• Basic understanding of HTML/CSS or how front-end components work
• Experience running even one usability test
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, or similar
