About Growing with us

In this role you will lead the development and use of state of the art ML / AI solutions for Research and Development (R&D). R&D is the key part of a pharma company and the work you will lead will contribute to our efforts across the entire R&D value chain, from basic research to drug design to clinical trial optimization. You will work closely with scientists using the latest technology to study human health, to develop innovative drugs and to determine who can benefit most from them. Examples of AI projects include, but are not limited to, gene expression and single cell analysis, spatial transcriptomics, deep networks for drug design, LLMs for automated protocol authoring, integration of RWD and clinical data for drug repurposing and more. Specific job requirements include:

• Manage a team of data scientists using machine learning, deep learning, statistics, text-mining/NLP, and optimization to several different applications in R&D

• Build models, algorithms, simulations, and experiments by writing highly optimized code and using state-of-the art machine learning technologies
• Work closely with scientists in the R&D units to apply methods to specific projects to derive insights and analysis of high throughput biomedical data
• Apply advanced ML / AI methods to various imaging and video platforms
• Adhere to and promote to best practices and standards for data science process (including documentation) and code developments
• Remains up to date with industry practices and emerging technologies such as generative AI and test creative ways of offering AI solutions to enhance existing solutions
• Mentor and coach junior data scientists and interns

About you

Key Functional Requirements and qualifications:

• Deep knowledge of ML / AI including advanced degree in this area.
• Good understanding of the overall drug development process
• People management experience is an advantage
• Hands-on AI/ML modeling and programming experience.
• Expertise within most of the following areas: supervised learning, unsupervised learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, federated learning, time series forecasting, Bayesian statistics, optimization
• Experience creating and deploying code libraries using functions, classes in Python in AI product-focused development under an agile environment
• Comfortable working in cloud and high-performance computing environments (e.g. AWS, GCP, Databricks, Apache Spark)
• Experience in communicating with business, expressing important DS concepts in a non-technical way, interpreting feedback from business
• Experience in leading the data science projects and working closely with junior data scientists and data analysts
• Identify and manage blockers, risks, and interdependencies across Agile teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication, business analysis, data visualization and data storytelling skills
• A demonstrated ability to work and collaborate in a team environment
• Fluent in English (Other languages a plus)

Key Technical requirements and qualifications:

• PhD in computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics or a related quantitative discipline with strong coding skills with 3+ years of analytical experience, OR Master’s Degree in relevant domain with 6+ years of analytical experience
• Experience working in the life science industry (pharma, biotech)
• Expertise with core data science languages (predominantly with Python, and nice to have R &  Scala), experience working with Snowflake and other different database systems (such as SQL, NoSQL)
• Should have experience of AI/ML development (CI/CD, Orchestration)
• Experience working in cloud-based environment such as AWS or GCP or Azure and using cloud-technologies for building AI-solutions
• Knowledge of git/version control systems or similar
• Experience with various enterprise-level Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
• Nice to be already involved in an Agile/Scrum environment and Comfortable utilizing tools like Jira & Confluence
• Nice to have experience in using some data science tools such as datarobot, dataiku, Alteryx
