Software Development Engineer II (Full-Stack - Node/React)

Department: Engineering

Employment Type: FTE

Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, Hybrid

About Saltmine

At Saltmine, we are rebuilding the $300B enterprise workplace design and asset management industry from the ground up. Founded in 2017 and backed by $20M in Series A funding, Saltmine is an enterprise B2B SaaS platform that helps corporate real estate (CRE) teams and enterprise companies plan, design, and optimize their physical workspaces.

By integrating spatial data, employee utilization metrics (such as badge swipes, sensors, and calendars), real-time collaborative 2D/3D visualization, and automated space planning tools, we act as the single source of truth for the modern workplace. Trusted by global brands like Nike, Snowflake, PG&E, and Workday, we are transforming a legacy, manual process into an intelligent, data-driven experience.

As we scale our platform and expand our visual, spatial, and data integrations, we are looking for a highly capable Software Development Engineer II (SDE 2) to join our core product engineering team.

Role Overview

As an SDE II at Saltmine, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining robust, high-performance web applications that power our real-time spatial planning, visualization, and collaboration modules. You will work across the stack, writing clean, modular backend services in Node.js (Express & Nest.js) and building rich, responsive user interfaces in React.js.

This is an opportunity to solve unique engineering challenges around big spatial datasets, interactive floor plan canvas elements, system performance, and collaborative workflow architectures.

  • Experience Level: 4–6 Years
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Location: Remote / Hybrid (as per location)
  • Target Industry Background: Strong preference for candidates from Product-based companies, specifically in the B2B SaaS ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Feature Delivery: Design, implement, test, and deploy end-to-end features using NestJS/Express on the backend and React on the frontend.
  • Architecture & Scalability: Write clean, self-documenting, and testable code. Help design scalable database schemas and API contracts (RESTful/GraphQL).
  • System Optimization: Identify performance bottlenecks in web clients and backend servers; refactor code and optimize complex queries to ensure snappy, low-latency performance.
  • Collaborative Development: Partner closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, and QA engineers to turn complex enterprise requirements into seamless user workflows.
  • Code Quality & Mentorship: Participate actively in code reviews, enforce coding guidelines, write comprehensive unit/integration tests, and mentor junior developers.

Role Requirements

Must-Have Skill Sets

Technical Background

  • Core Languages: Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
  • Backend Development: Minimum 3+ years of professional hands-on backend development with Node.js, with proven experience in building production APIs using Express.js and Nest.js frameworks.
  • Frontend Development: Minimum 2+ years of professional experience building complex, interactive single-page applications (SPAs) with React.js and state management systems (such as Redux, Recoil, or React Context).
  • Database Management: Deep understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) or NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB), including index optimization, complex queries, and data modeling.
  • System Design: Clear understanding of RESTful API principles, microservices or modular monolith architectures, and MVC patterns.

Professional Experience & Profile

  • Years of Experience: 4 to 6 years of solid software engineering experience in web-scale applications.
  • Product Company Pedigree:
Direct, recent experience working in product-focused companies. You understand how to build for long-term maintainability, manage tech debt, and adapt to shifting product-market requirements.
  • B2B SaaS Mindset: Experience building enterprise-grade applications. You understand multitenancy, role-based access control (RBAC), data isolation, and security best practices.
  • Agile Work Ethic: Experience working in fast-paced Agile/Scrum product cycles.

Good-to-Have Skill Sets

  • Performance Optimization: Experience optimizing high-frequency operations, data serialization/deserialization, and rendering optimization (especially around interactive DOMs, SVG, HTML5 Canvas, or WebGL/Three.js).
  • Real-time Engineering: Experience with real-time multiplayer systems using WebSockets (Socket.io) or WebRTC.
  • DevOps & Cloud Ecosystem: Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS, Docker containerization, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
  • Modern CSS Frameworks: Experience with Tailwind CSS, styled-components, or similar modern CSS methodologies for clean, responsive UI layouts.
  • Testing Libraries: Solid experience with automated testing tools (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Mocha/Chai).

Why Join Saltmine?

  • Work on a Unique Product: We aren't just building CRUD dashboards. You will work on a platform that merges complex spatial data, real-time collaboration tools, and enterprise workflow engines.
  • High Growth & Impact: As an SDE 2 in a tight-knit, collaborative product team, your decisions will directly impact our system architecture, product direction, and customer success.
  • Culture of Autonomy: We practice radical trust, value open communication, and encourage engineering initiatives and out-of-the-box ideas.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Competitive salary and equity packages, flexible work timings, a generous vacation policy, and a focus on work-life balance and psychological safety.
