WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to provide an experienced backbone to our Database Engineering Team in the form of problem-solving, automation, capacity planning, and overall database platform and infrastructure management.

On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining data in all production and non-production databases inclusive of monitoring and troubleshooting.  You will maintain backups, replication, data integrity and data security.  In addition you will work closely with various teams throughout the organization to build and maintain database structure and standards to meet enterprise requirements and solutions.  You will drive research into new DB technologies through various proof of concepts.  You will work with a team constantly innovating to meet the needs of our rapidly growing database layer. Whether developing new HA solutions, architecting new storage infrastructure, or automating processes to drive more efficiencies, you will drive big results for our team and ultimately our customers. You will assist in query performance tuning and aid in problem resolution where appropriate.  You will plan, build, and maintain our production database infrastructure.

Our Salesloft Database Engineering Team is comprised of seasoned database engineers who are all aligned on one vision and mission:

THE SKILL SET:

• You’re naturally curious and enjoy tackling the most difficult technical problems.
• At least 7 years of experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL/Oracle/MySQL preferred)
• Experience with cloud database offerings (AWS RDS and/or GCP CloudSQL) including administration
• Experience with database deployments on EC2 and/or GCP compute instances 
• Expertise in SQL and query optimization/tuning
• Demonstrated experience with large scale enterprise databases including monitoring and troubleshooting
• Experience with high availability databases and failover clustering (Patroni is a plus)
• Experience creating and managing databases through automation with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Scripting (Bash/Python) 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, love collaborating on a team, and get satisfaction from improving the lives of your teammates.
• Continuous learner and constantly looking for ways to use and improve your skills.
• Good understanding of the engineering lifecycle and how teams work in agile.
  
  

WITHIN ONE MONTH, YOU’LL:

• Attend Salesloft’s New Hire Orientation, where you will learn our Salesloft story and understand what makes our “Lofters” unique
• Attend an Engineering Department orientation
• Begin 1:1’s with your manager, understand your 30-60-90 plan, meet & shadow current members of the Salesloft team, and delve into your territory 
• Establish access to all Existing database environments tools

WITHIN THREE MONTHS, YOU’LL:

• Join the on-call rotation for the Database Engineering Team
• Set your MOaTs (Metrics, Obstacles, and Tactics) with your manager and develop an action plan to achieve them
• Start to independently answer escalated tickets
• Understand the process for and participate in escalations both to and from Engineering as needed in the course of troubleshooting issues
• Understand tools used for monitoring, logging, and error reporting

WITHIN SIX MONTHS, YOU’LL:

• Mentor junior engineers and lead database engineering projects
• Prepare and review maintenance plans for production changes
