Job Description:

Apprenticeship is a 12-month program that will provide a comprehensive learning experience, blending theoretical knowledge with on-the-job training. Over the 12-month period, apprentices at Russell Investments will gain valuable exposure to industry while developing essential soft skills and acclimating to a professional corporate environment.

Role Summary

We are looking for a motivated Graduate Software Developer to contribute to the development and support of full-stack applications and services. The successful candidate will gain experience across user interfaces, .NET services, Web APIs, databases, reporting solutions, and data visualizations.

Working with experienced developers, business partners, and investment professionals, the individual will initially deliver well-defined assignments with guidance and progressively assume greater technical ownership. The role is designed to develop the technical, business, and collaborative capabilities required to independently deliver increasingly complex solutions over the first two to three years.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Technology, or a related engineering or technology discipline.

• Foundational knowledge or project-based experience with .NET Core or modern .NET, .NET Framework, C#, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, service-oriented architecture, Web APIs, ASP.NET MVC, and Angular or React.

• Foundational knowledge of relational databases, SQL queries, and database-design principles.

• Familiarity with Git, Agile development practices, and Software Development Life Cycle principles.

• Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery concepts.

• Familiarity with reporting and data-visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI is preferred.

• Familiarity with connecting reports or dashboards to SQL-based data sources is advantageous.

• Interest in learning and responsibly using firm-approved AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and code improvement.

• Clear verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build collaborative working relationships.

• CFA Investment Foundations certification, relevant coursework, or demonstrated interest in financial markets is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the analysis, design, development, testing, debugging, and documentation of software applications and services.

• Write maintainable, testable, reusable, and appropriately documented code using established standards and Agile development practices.

• Develop and enhance solutions using C#, .NET, ASP.NET MVC, Web APIs, SQL, JavaScript, and Angular or React.

• Work across user-interface, web, middle-tier, API, database, and reporting layers.

• Implement well-defined features in existing applications and assist in developing prototypes and new software solutions.

• Create and maintain unit tests and participate in peer code reviews.

• Use Git and follow established continuous-integration and deployment practices.

• Assist in developing and maintaining reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using firm-approved tools such as Microsoft Power BI.

• Validate report data and calculations against approved data sources.

• Use firm-approved AI-assisted development tools, where appropriate, to support coding, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and learning.

• Review, test, and validate all AI-generated outputs before using them in applications or technical documentation.

• Follow applicable information-security, data-privacy, intellectual-property, and secure-development requirements when using AI-assisted tools.

• Work with developers, product owners, quality-engineering colleagues, business analysts, and business partners throughout the Software Development Life Cycle.

• Investigate application defects, data issues, and performance concerns with guidance from experienced team members.

• Communicate progress, risks, assumptions, questions, and technical findings in a timely manner.

• Develop an understanding of the business purpose of assigned applications, services, reports, and dashboards.

• Identify opportunities to improve code quality, test coverage, documentation, reporting, and development processes.

• Progressively assume ownership of application components, features, reports, and user requirements as experience develops.

Candidate Requirements

• Foundational understanding of full-stack software development across user-interface, web, service, API, database, and reporting layers.

• Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle and Agile development principles.

• Ability to understand defined technical problems, break them into manageable tasks, and seek guidance when appropriate.

• Basic understanding of SQL, relational databases, and database-schema concepts.

• Familiarity with Git or another version-control system.

• Awareness of continuous-integration and continuous-delivery practices.

• Interest in developing Microsoft Power BI, reporting, and data-visualization capabilities.

• Ability to use AI-assisted development tools responsibly while maintaining human review and accountability for completed work.

• Commitment to producing accurate, secure, well-tested, and appropriately documented solutions.
