What You Will Do

Collins Aerospace is seeking motivated Software Engineers join the Integrated Applications Engineering team supporting development of the Collins Flight Deck. This role offers the opportunity to work on real avionics programs and gain hands-on experience across the software lifecycle—from requirements and architecture through integration, verification, and delivery.

This position will provide you the opportunity to work with Flight Deck software in an agile team environment. The team has an array of technical tasks available meant to develop engineers for the future. As part of the team, you will work alongside experienced engineers to help develop the software based on high-level system behaviors, decompose requirements, support avionics architecture development, and contribute to software verification activities. This is a strong fit for those who enjoy solving technical problems, learning complex systems, and collaborating across software, systems, and test disciplines. 

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run January-August (including the Spring semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity)

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of software engineers, integration specialists, and test engineers to design, develop, and deliver robust avionics software solutions. 
  • Support the development, analysis, and refinement of software requirements and interfaces to ensure alignment with system-level objectives. 
  • Contribute to the planning and development of software verification and testing strategies to ensure implementations meet functional and performance requirements. 
  • Participate in technical reviews of software requirements, design documents, and test procedures, incorporating feedback to improve the quality and effectiveness of your deliverables. 
  • Assist with software integration, debugging, and issue resolution in development, simulation, and testing environments. 
  • Clearly communicate technical progress, challenges, and potential solutions to team members, mentors, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes

What You Will Learn 

  • How avionics systems are developed across the full engineering lifecycle, from concept and requirements through integration and verification. 
  • How to work with software requirements, architecture artifacts, and verification methods used on real aerospace programs. 
  • How to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment with mentorship from a dedicated technical “copilot” and other experienced team members. 
  • How to apply structured problem solving, technical communication, and engineering rigor in a safety-critical domain. 

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline. and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Experience in C/C++ and Python
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
