The Software organization develops software applications focused on providing cutting edge capabilities and solutions to our customers toughest challenges. Our precision software and firmware integrate operating systems, device drivers, networking, and control software to bring together sensor, guidance, and flight control processing features to complete the mission. The Software org is made up of several Centers located across the country, responsible for all aspects of the software development lifecycle . Are you a passionate, motivated Software Developer interested in a rewarding career in the Defense Industry? We are looking for a Software Engineer I with embedded development experience to join our Space and RF Sensors team at Raytheon in Fort Wayne IN.

  • Design, develop, and maintain software for aerospace and defense applications, ensuring robust functionality and reliability.

  • Implement, test, and debug software solutions to ensure compliance with project requirements and quality standards.

  • Collaborate with systems engineering, hardware engineering, and other teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal system performance.

  • Participate in code reviews, testing procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance software quality and development processes.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and issues in a timely manner.

  • Document software designs, test results, and troubleshooting processes for future reference

Qualifications You Must Have

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or Java.

  • Understanding of software development life cycles, including Agile methodologies.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Knowledge of DevOps and DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and secure software development methodologies.

  • Experience leveraging Generative AI and Machine Learning to improve productivity, collaboration, and performance

  • Familiarity with real-time embedded systems or aerospace/defense applications.

  • Experience with version control tools such as Git.

  • Exposure to Open Systems Architectures and modular design principles.

  • Exposure to cybersecurity principles and secure coding practices.

  • Experience with software testing and debugging tools.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance. DCSA Consolidated Adjudication Services (DCSA CAS), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid or remote.

The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
