At RTX BBN Technologies, we invent new science by applying cross-discipline techniques to tangible prototype systems to prove concept viability. Our Network and Cyber Technologies group anticipates the future in very large- and very small-scale information exchange across wired and wireless environments, spanning multiple domains including space, air, surface, and undersea.

BBN seeks esteemed and experienced Researchers skilled in Software Engineering to become an integral part of this work and expand its scope. You will contribute solid software development skills and innovative research to such diverse and critical areas as network infrastructure security, network understanding, energy conservation, content networking, mobile networking, efficient channel access, satellite communications, NetworkML and use of AI for networking within extremely harsh or hostile environments. You will pursue external funding opportunities from government research agencies like DARPA, IARPA, AFRL, etc. You will work with extraordinarily talented scientists and engineers.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Advance networking-related research areas for BBN, having measurable impact on business capture.

Lead teams to design and develop high-performance software for state-of-the-art network solutions.

Participate in cross-functional teams performing business development, proposal preparation, and execution.

Position may require some amount of overnight travel.

Qualifications You Must Have

• BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relevant field plus 10 years of related experience, or MS plus 7 years, or PhD plus 5 years.
• Experience leading a small research and development team in the field of communications and networks.
• Experience with business development and capture from engagement with the customer to writing proposals.
• 3+ years experience in disciplined C/C++ and/or Java software development for large systems and in a Linux environment.
• Experience working with modern software development tools and DevSecOps pipelines.
• Experience with Docker and containerized code.
• Experience designing, writing, debugging, and reviewing complex code to specifications / requirements.
• Us citizenship required with the ability and willingness to get a US Department of Defense security clearance
• Travel to business or customer sites for projects will be required and as needed.

Qualifications We Prefer - Familiar with all, Expert in some

• Experience with Service Mesh, Cloud Computing, and Secure and Private Network Technologies.
• Experience with Network Access Control, Vulnerability Analysis and Anomaly Detection Technologies.
• Experience with building cross-layer wireless networks for autonomous systems.
• Experience with modern AI/ML libraries and tools.
• Experience in Rust, Kotlin, and/or Python.
• Experience in C/C++ or Rust software development.
• Experience with systems integration.
• Experience with UI development.
• Experience with modern build systems such as Maven or Gradle.
• Experience with Android development.
• Experience with Machine Learning applied to Networking problems.
• Strong formalism and modeling skills.

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
