The following position is to join our RTX Corporate, Enterprise Services, Research Center or BBN team:

The Mechanical Engineering Discipline's Undersea Sensors & Structures Department, located in Portsmouth RI, is currently seeking an experienced senior principal level Mechanical/Ocean Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design/development and transitioning those designs to production.  Experience with undersea systems such as mine hunting systems, mine neutralization systems, undersea vehicles and undersea sensors is desired.

The candidate shall have extensive experience with problem solving and resolving design issues that impact production.  Role relies on demonstrated ability to methodically approach a challenging problem with engineering rigor and an understanding of business impacts.  Additional experience as a production support engineer supporting fabrication, assembly and test of high reliability electronic systems is desired, as well as experience with new business capture and experience authoring or contributing to proposal cost and technical volumes. Candidate should have solid technical and analysis skills and shall be capable of concept development based upon applying principles of mechanical engineering analysis. Experience with the integration of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) electronics into military systems is desired. The ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced IPT environment is required. CAD literacy is required and experience with PTC CREO is a plus.

As a supplement to technical experience, this role will utilize experience with engineering project management and associated financial reporting. The candidate shall be capable of or have experience leading a team of engineers and other supporting functions through a planned effort, and have experience planning schedule and budget for work scope. Strong written and oral communication skills are required in order to effectively interface across program management, execution team, suppliers, and customer base. 

The position is located at the Raytheon facility in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and may require some travel between Raytheon and customer sites.

The Portsmouth facility has miles of nature trails, a fitness center, a dining center, research library and medical facility. Portsmouth is one of three towns on Aquidneck Island in the “East Bay” section of Rhode Island, and is anchored by the famed beaches, mansions, activities, and nightlife of Newport, five miles south of the facility.  Aquidneck island is a sailing center for Rhode Island as well as offering surfing and watersports at their several south-facing beaches.  Boston is an easy car ride to our north.

Basic Qualifications:

Must have minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design, documentation and/or fabrication of mechanical products.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Experience with program cost and schedule monitoring and reporting.

Experience with configuration management systems.

Team Leadership experience.

Experience with 3-D modeling software.

Typically requires:

A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years

prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree

in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited

by local laws/regulations.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience in the specification, design, development, production and testing of undersea sensors, systems, and launch/recovery systems for both shipboard and undersea applications.

Experience in mechanical design and electronics packaging in extreme sub-sea environments and knowledge of design for long term submergence, sealing, and corrosion resistance.

Experience on DoD programs.

Experience with PTC CREO and PDM.

Experience with analysis software.

Experience with GD&T.

Experience with COTs hardware selection and integration.

Experience managing programs using EVMS (Earned Value Management System).

Required Education (including Major): Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Ocean Engineering required, MS is preferred.

Clearance Requirements: Secret required, Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
