The Technology & Engineering organization is comprised of the global engineering function, several focused centers of expertise, and our advanced Research & Development lab – the Research Center. The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC is focusing on the research, development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.
What You Will Do:
The Senior Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including:
Support external project proposals to advance AM technology
Develop advanced process parameters to enable complex geometries with enhanced material properties
Investigate sources of machine variability and develop methods to eliminate observed variability
Execute and oversee development builds on various Additive Manufacturing machines
Collaborate with internal and external groups to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals
Explore the capabilities of advanced tools and equipment to characterize machines and process space
Develop machine installation, machine operation, and part qualification processes and standards
Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to gain a deep understanding of and support the full value stream
Work with RTX Business Units to understand and address their needs
Lead projects to advance the industrialization of AM at RTX
Qualifications You Must Have:
The preferred candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment. Candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or a Master's Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience or a PhD.
Deep technical writing and research skills with strong presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills
Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar and experience with software and tools used in Additive Manufacturing including CAD packages
Hands on experience with metal laser powder-bed-fusion AM equipment and a basic understanding of low voltage sensors and control systems
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
