Principal Engineer – Safety-Critical Embedded Software (Avionics)

Principal Engineer – Safety-Critical Embedded Software

What You'll Do

As a Principal Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and validation of safety-critical avionics software for next-generation aerospace platforms.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and validate complex safety-critical embedded software applications.

  • Lead software development across the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

  • Analyze customer and system requirements, translating them into high-level and low-level software requirements.

  • Define software architecture, design approaches, and verification strategies.

  • Develop and review software test plans, test cases, and validation procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with aerospace certification standards and engineering best practices.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Systems Engineering, Verification & Validation, Certification, and Program Management.

  • Drive technical excellence while mentoring engineers and contributing to continuous process improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related STEM discipline.

  • 12+ years of experience in embedded software development, preferably within the aerospace or other safety-critical industries.

  • 8+ Years of Strong knowledge of aerospace software certification standards:

    • DO-178

    • ARP4754A

  • 6+ Years of Solid understanding of avionics communication protocols:

    • ARINC 429

    • AFDX

    • ARINC 653

    • ARINC 615A

  • 8+ Years of Strong expertise in software lifecycle processes, requirements engineering, and verification methodologies.

  • 7+ Years of Experience deriving software requirements from customer and system-level requirements.

  • 8+ Years of Proven experience defining software verification and validation strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ Years of Hands-on embedded software development experience using C++.

  • Programming experience in embedded systems and scripting languages.

  • Knowledge of Flight Management Systems (FMS).

  • Exposure to aerospace certification and regulatory compliance processes.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and technical leadership skills.
