You have the unique opportunity to be a part of this new venture, spearheading the establishment of Pratt & Whitney within Europe’s aviation technology and innovation ecosystem.
The Pratt & Whitney office is located in Houten, near the historic city of Utrecht, 30 minutes from Amsterdam and within the Dutch Randstad, a region that boasts nearly half the Dutch population.
The Advanced Concepts group within the ETIC is responsible for evaluating and exploring new engine concepts, architectures and technologies. In this group you will discover and develop new concepts for commercial engines to enable sustainable and zero-carbon flight, including hybrid electric and liquid hydrogen propulsion. This position provides the opportunity to make novel discoveries to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Job Description:
This is a technical position. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Originate and evaluate propulsion concepts where thermodynamic cycles work in concert with hybrid electric propulsion, alternative fuels and aircraft elements to meet key requirements,
Study impact of alternative propulsion systems on general Aircraft performance, including propulsion integration effects,
Perform thermodynamic cycle and performance analysis of these propulsion concepts,
Build and execute multi-disciplinary design, analysis and optimization (MDAO) workflows, perform topology exploration and evaluate vehicle integration,
Execute model-based systems engineering (MBSE) to develop models of propulsion concepts in collaboration with internal and external partners,
Investigate use of optimization tools to improve result accuracy and model running time
Establish and maintain trust with internal and external customers by executing tasks with robust technical solutions,
Work as part of a multi-national team including other P&W engineering disciplines in Europe and the United States, fellow RTX-business Collins Aerospace, and the RTX Technology Research Center,
Challenge, clarify, and define assumptions, collaboratively originate novel concepts, perform studies to evaluate them, and submit invention disclosures for possible submission of patents,
Summarize and present design and analysis results for senior leadership and external customer briefings.
Qualifications You Must Have
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering,
2+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in the related field,
Experience in aviation, turbomachinery and/or gas turbine industries,
Experience in thermodynamic cycle analysis / aircraft propulsion performance modelling,
Experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
Qualifications We Prefer
Proficiency in NPSS or equivalent,
Proficiency in MATLAB,
Ability to create and execute multi-disciplinary design, analysis and optimization (MDAO) workflows using iSIGHT/ 3DExperience, or equivalent tools,
Familiarity with NASA CEA for modelling of combustion products and NIST RefProp for modelling of gas properties, or equivalent,
Experience in transient cycle models and controls,
Experience operating in teams using the Agile project management methodology,
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and deadlines,
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills as well as a consistent record of demonstrating collaboration, innovation, and initiative
