Located in Exmouth, the Electrical Fitter is responsible for delivering high‑quality maintenance, repair, installation and overhaul services for electrical equipment across the site or workshop environment. This role ensures the safe and reliable operation of electrical systems, including switchboards, motors, transformers, generators, and control panels. The Electrical Fitter will carry out preventative and corrective maintenance, perform diagnostics and fault‑finding, and support the commissioning and modification of electrical equipment in line with operational requirements, OEM specifications and relevant WA legislation.
Working both independently and as part of a broader maintenance team, the Electrical Fitter is expected to apply strong technical capability, attention to detail and a commitment to safety. The role requires effective communication with engineering, operations and other trades to resolve equipment issues, improve reliability and maintain compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991. This position plays a key part in ensuring plant availability, minimising downtime, and supporting continuous improvement across maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, repair, and overhaul electrical equipment such as switchboards, motors, generators, transformers, and control panels.
- Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics, and troubleshooting on electrical systems to minimise operational downtime.
- Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance in accordance with site maintenance plans and OEM specifications.
- Assemble, wire, and test electrical components and machinery in workshop or site environments.
- Interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and technical documentation accurately.
- Carry out testing and verification of electrical systems to ensure compliance with WA electrical standards and the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991.
- Ensure all electrical work is completed safely and in line with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and company procedures. Develop job safety analyses for specific tasks.
- Plan and complete work tasks, maintenance reports, and documentation within CMMS systems.
- Collaborate with engineering, mechanical, and operations teams to resolve equipment issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and plant performance.
- Maintain tools, workshop equipment, and testing devices in safe working condition.
- Support commissioning, upgrades, and modifications of electrical equipment or plant infrastructure.
Essential Qualifications & Licences
- Electrical Worker’s Licence - Electrician (issued under the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991).
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology – Electrician.
- Current “C” Class Manual Driver’s Licence.
- Construction White Card.
- Working at Heights training
- CPR/LVR (within valid timeframe).
- Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) Security clearance as needed. Eligibility can be found at http://www.defence.gov.au/agsva
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as an Electrical Fitter in industrial, mining, oil & gas, utilities, defence, or heavy manufacturing environments.
- Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic abilities on LV electrical systems and rotating equipment.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining, overhauling and installing motors, switchboards, generators, transformers and control systems.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation accurately.
- Competence in safe isolation, lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) and electrical safety procedures.
- Experience with preventative and corrective maintenance routines.
- Hands‑on experience with electrical testing equipment (e.g., insulation testers, multimeters, loop testers).
- Ability to work autonomously and within a maintenance team to meet operational deadlines.
- Strong understanding of WA electrical safety legislation and Australian Standards.
- Proficiency in completing maintenance records, job cards, and CMMS entries.
Desired Qualifications
- High Voltage Switching Operation (HVSO) certification.
- EEHA (Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas) competency.
- Cert IV in Instrumentation or additional automation-related qualifications.
- First Aid certificate.
- Forklift, EWP or dogging/rigging tickets (site‑dependent).
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience in HV switching or exposure to high‑voltage equipment.
- Control systems experience (fault‑finding or basic programming).
- Experience in hazardous areas (EEHA) equipment maintenance or inspections.
- Familiarity with CMMS platforms.
