The Airborne Radar Electronics Design Department at Raytheon is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to support VHDL-based firmware development and hardware integration activities for advanced airborne radar systems. Depending on assignments, this role may involve supporting FPGA development, digital design verification, radar hardware integration, and system-level troubleshooting. The intern will work closely with experienced radar electronics engineers on real hardware used in airborne radar platforms.

What You Will Do:

  • Assist in developing, modifying, and verifying VHDL firmware modules for radar-related FPGA subsystems
  • Support simulation, testbench development, and debugging using industry-standard EDA tools
  • Participate in airborne radar hardware integration, could include board-level bring-up, signal interface testing, and system validation
  • Execute structured test procedures and document results thoroughly
  • Troubleshoot firmware, digital interfaces, and radar hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and FPGA debugging tools
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to validate system functionality and implement required design updates
  • Support continuous improvement of test setups, documentation practices, and development workflows

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Coursework or project experience involving VHDL, Verilog, and digital logic design
  • Familiarity with FPGA development environments (Vivado, Quartus, ModelSim, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, digital interfaces, and hardware test equipment
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a lab-focused engineering environment

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience with Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or scripting languages for test automation
  • Prior experience with FPGA projects, embedded systems, or digital signal processing coursework
  • Hands-on familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes or logic analyzers
  • Interest in radar systems or RF/digital hardware

The salary range for this role is 42,000 USD - 88,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
