What is the Opportunity?

This role is responsible for providing software support and technical guidance to system programmers, operations staff, and application developers in the evaluation, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of CICS and IMS systems, as well as associated vendor products across multiple development, testing, and production environments. These systems, deployed in two data centers, deliver critical infrastructure services for RBC’s mainframe business applications, ensuring seamless client service. Key responsibilities include maintaining software currency for secure and optimized online systems and offering consulting services to applications leveraging these systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance.

What Will You Do?

  • Install and support multiple CICS systems and CICSPlex configurations, managing CTG and MQ transaction inputs, and monitoring via Omegamon/CICS across 3 developments, 3 testing, and 5 production environments. Ensure high availability for numerous applications in all production environments.

  • Review vendor HIPER lists monthly to identify critical RBC-impacting fixes and schedule them for installation in a timely manner.

  • Identify opportunities for tuning CICS and IMS performance to ensure SLA requirements are maintained or exceeded.

  • Maintain an excellent understanding of CICS and IMS technology and interfacing technologies, such as Db2, MQ & WAS, supported by other areas of RBC.

  • Ensure that CICS and IMS software and RBC-developed code are maintained at appropriate SMP/E maintenance levels to minimize RBC's exposure to known risks.

  • Install and support multiple IMSplex configurations, including IMS Connect regions, managing WAS and MQ transaction inputs, Omegamon/IMS monitoring, and Db2 back-ends across 2 development LPARs, 5 testing LPARs, and 9 production LPARs. Ensure high availability for numerous applications in all production environments.

  • Direct research, identify and recommend exploiting new IMS and z/OS features and functions, such as z/OS Connect EE API processing, and RBC written code to ensure proper use of technology while adhering to RBC's long-term architectural direction.

  • Provide expert technical advice to operation staff and application developers as required to assist in the resolution of their problems.

  • Recommend and implement strategies to ensure that all CICS and IMS regions/transactions are fully secured using RACF security.

What Do You Need to Succeed?

Must-Have:

  • 10+ years’ experience supporting CICS and IMS.

  • Experience with a variety of tools such as CICSPA, IMSPA, IMSPI, IMS Fast Path utilities, Fault Analyzer, File-Aid and Omegamon.

  • SMP/E experience.

  • Subsystem tuning experience.

  • CICS and IMS Installation, support, diagnostics techniques.

  • Experience in various programming languages. (e.g. Cobol, JCL and Assembler)

  • Security products e.g. RACF.

  • z/OS system technical knowledge.

Nice to Have:

  • Proficiency in written and oral communication, along with strong presentation skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities.

  • Results-oriented and deadline-driven, with the ability to consistently meet high-quality standards while managing multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
