Job Description Summary:

The Software Engineer-III designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software tools including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools. Determines software’s compatibility with hardware and/or influences software's design in relation to hardware.

Job Overview:  

The Software Engineer-III designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software tools including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools. Determines software’s compatibility with hardware and/or influences software's design in relation to hardware. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • IBM Cloud
  • Terraform
  • Kubernetes and/or OpenShift
  • Jenkins
  • Python/Shell scripting
  • Monitoring, troubleshooting of both VM & cloud-based environment
  • Debug and troubleshoot internal automations
  • Craft and develop tools needed for automating workflows
  • Participate in triaging & resolution of complex build and test infra related issues.
  • Collaborate with our other engineering teams to expose any defects and constraints.
  • Collaborate with software development teams to deliver reliable, robust, and high-performance capability of the underlying infra.
  • Build, deploy and release SW per recommended DevOps standards
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis & Implement Corrective Actions for any persistent & user impacting issues.
  • Contribute to other DevOps initiatives

Required Qualifications/Experience

  • Strong background in planning, building, configuring, and monitoring IBM Cloud Infrastructure
  • Proven experience in deploying and maintaining secure, scalable, highly available, fault tolerant, cost-efficient solutions in IBM Cloud
  • Conversant with IBM Cloud Products such as IBM Power, Cloud Virtual Servers, Cloud Load Balancers, Cloud Database for Db2 & PostgreSQL, Cloud Schematics, Event Streams, API Connect, Cloud IBMi & Linux, Security Verify, Security Guardium, Storage Ceph, Cloud Object Storage, Cloud Pak for Data, Cognos Analytics
  • Proficient with Terraform (IaC), Kubernetes and/or OpenShift, Docker & Virtualization.
  • Strong background in Docker, Containerization and managing large scale container/pod deployments for Kubernetes and/or OpenShift clusters.
  • Solid programming background in Python/Shell and/or similar scripting languages.
  • Proficient with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef and Puppet), source code management & binary repository systems like GitLab, GitHub, Artifactory etc.
  • Strong background with Gitlab, Jenkins and/or other CI/CD systems
  • Knowledge of standard methodologies related to security.
  • Proficient with data analytics/visualization & monitoring tools like Kibana, Grafana, Splunk, Zabbix, Prometheus

and/or similar systems.

  • Strong understanding of architectural requirements and development processes involved in building reliable, robust,

scalable data products and pipelines.

  • Excellent debugging, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • 5+ years of proven experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Fluency in English language, both written and spoken excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to

deal professionally and collaboratively with all levels of the organization and across geographies.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Strong background in IBMi OS on IBM Power Servers
  • Conversant with IBM AIX or Linux or Windows
  • Conversant with other public cloud vendors such as AWS or Azure or GCP
  • Thrives in a multi-tasking environment with constantly evolving priorities.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems into simple sub problems and then reuse available solutions to implement most of those.
  • Ability to design simple systems that can work efficiently without needing much support.

 

Education: 

Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
