Senior Software Engineer

As an Engineer on the Search & Discovery Platform team (S&D) at Roblox you'll be part of the founding engineers building and powering S&D use cases across Roblox. Simply said, you will influence how Roblox's billion+ users will discover the best content and experiences on Roblox's platform. You will report into the Engineering Manager for our Search & Discovery Platform. You will build robust, large scale distributed systems that help 10+ teams across Roblox to power their search solutions, by offering text, semantic and ML search platform services. You also power ML across Roblox by building the Ground Truth Data labeling platform and ML Feature store.

You Will:

• Build the next generation platform helping 10+ teams provide search and recommendations for immersive experiences, avatar items, user-generated content, finding friends, groups, game creation, and more.
• Ensure that our systems can scale to meet the demands of a billion players, helping them find the right experiences and content on Roblox.
• Work with engineering and data scientists for recommendation and ranking to improve the technology and models that guide recommendations.
• On the ML side, you will build a feature store for 1000+ use cases. You will also build the Ground Truth Labeling platform for data labeling using ML assisted labeling and active learning. 
• Explore the bleeding edge of search technologies like semantic search powered by vector databases, LLM for search and labeling efficiency, and bring these to large scale adoption at Roblox.

You Have:

• Experience with at least 5+ years in building scalable and robust distributed backend applications.
• A love for coding and design.
• An excitement about solving problems at scale (1 Billion users), performance optimizations
• Passion for search systems, building PLATFORM components to enable multiple teams.
• Architected with microservices architecture, REST, gRPC.
• Experience with one or more modern programming languages such as Go, C#, C++, Java.
• Experience with streaming solutions (Kafka, Amazon SQS/SNS), SQL and No-SQL concepts and design.

You May Have:

• Experience building or working on a recommendation system or search backend (a huge plus).
• Experience building ML Platforms, Feature stores, Data labeling platforms (plus)
• Experience working with public clouds such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
