Job Description

Calling America’s best systems-thinkers and mission-driven ‘doers’- we need you.

Team Rhombus solves essential national security problems and as we continue to grow, we need your help in driving real impact on some of our key national security initiatives across the country.

As a Data Scientist, you will be embedded with our San Diego-based client, the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC) to help solve essential problems to deterrence.

You’ll be pulling data sources, cleaning data, setting up machine learning problems, code solutions to physical problems, and set up and run machine learning problems. You’ll be working with code blocks from Rhombus, but the problem sets will be highly classified.

This is an ambitious role that will make formative impacts on topical deterrence issues, combined with significant opportunities for growth at Rhombus. We’re seeking candidates that understand how high the stakes are, and are happy to do whatever it takes to get the job done. You’ll work in small teams to fully own the delivery of high stakes projects with our client. A typical work day will include building LLM workflows at scale, interacting with the  customers to better understand their needs and set an AI strategy, but the most impact will be driven by developing solutions.

Please note: Only Active TS/SCI clearance holding candidates will be considered for this position.

What we seek:

  • You’ll use your experience in data science, data engineering, and in machine learning to lead analytical exploration and data examination while you manage the assessment, design, building, and maintenance of scalable platforms for our client.
  • Bring your systems-level mindset and focus on delivering production solutions with AI, data processing pipelines, and advanced analytics tools.
  • Discover datasets that could help in solution development, and design, create, and implement quantitative models.
  • Candidates are able to conduct validation and quality assurance of data, models and results with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Ability to collaborate efficiently in teams of technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic environment with evolving objectives and direct iteration with users.

Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance is a requirement
  • A strong academic background in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or similar degree is highly desired. We prefer candidates to hold at minimum a Masters degree. We have multiple openings!
  • Exceptional academic and industry experience with Python and especially with data handling libraries such as Pandas and PyArrow
  • Strong background in database management solutions, familiarity with databases such as MySQL and Oracle
  • Large-scale data processing and implementing batch processing pipelines in HPC or cloud architecture
  • Experience with Cloud Computing environments (AWS, GCloud, Azure) is a plus
  • Deep experience with programming and scripting languages, with a strong focus on Python, Pandas and Numpy. Other languages include: Shell, PERL, Java, C/C++/C#, Scala, etc.
  • Exceptional technical fluency in machine learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, etc.)

Personal Qualities:

  • Ability to contextualize data as it relates to Rhombus’ vision. We want someone who can understand the “why” and “so what”, and not just the “how”. Our Data Scientists help us transmit the enthusiasm we have around the data work to the individuals doing that work.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • We’re seeking candidates with strong intellectual curiosity and creativity, with an ability and willingness to learn new skills and apply novel solutions to problems.
  • Comfort in a fast-paced start-up environment is crucial, with the ability to consistently revise your approach in response to new information, and to be flexible and adaptive.

Benefits

  • Full medical, dental, vision coverage for employee and dependents
  • 401k matching program
  • PTO and Holidays
  • Bonus and other incentive programs
  • Access to mental health program
  • Access to Flexible Spending Accounts for Health Care, Dependent and Commuter

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We prioritize job seekers as our customers, unlike bigger job sites, by charging a small fee to provide them with curated access to the best companies and up-to-date jobs. This focus allows us to deliver a more personalized and effective job search experience.
  • Salaries for the engineering jobs on our site range from $100K-$200K. On average, senior engineer positions on our EchoJobs are about $160K.
  • The EchoJobs positions have been sourced and vetted from the top companies to work for in the US as a software engineer, including LinkedIn and other reputable job sites. We also have syndicated jobs from companies that have just raised funding, as well as those that have great unique products and culture. From all of these sources, our founder, Morgan, has also resourced the company's authenticity in terms of their website, public appearance, and more.
  • Yes, our users asked us for just this, so now our search filters allow you to search for your top jobs via location, as well as by onsite, remote, or both. Approximately 30% of our jobs are remote, so you’ve got the best options for you!
  • We have not yet implemented this option, but are considering doing so in the future. For the moment, you would need to cancel your subscription, and resubscribe when you wanted to come back.
  • We add new jobs to EchoJobs every day! We scan our sources for the newest jobs, verify them, and post them to EchoJobs within minutes. We add about 2,000-3,000 new jobs for you each day!
  • From starting your job search to getting hired, the entire job search process can take us software engineers anywhere between 3-6 months. However, at EchoJobs, we’re striving to shorten this duration by finding the best, newest jobs for you, so you can do less job searching, and more applying.
  • We’d recommend checking EchoJobs daily, as we add new jobs to the site each day. Additionally, if you got a chance to read our previous email on “what makes EchoJobs different from any other job search tools,” we also recommended that you set a job alert based on your job filters, so if you get emails on those new jobs, you could be checking more than once per day.
  • If you decide to continue with us after the 1-month trial, we definitely recommend this, as we all know it usually takes 3-6 months to find a quality job as a software engineer these days. So to best support you, we just adjusted our membership options at EchoJobs to monthly, 3 months, or 12 months (this option is more for passive job seekers looking a little bit for the future if they want to come back to work or make a job switch potentially. This lets you see what’s out there in case an even better fit job becomes available.)
  • EchoJobs is truly the only job site of its kind. We want to be THE spot for you to find the best job for you, and haven’t encountered any other company doing this. Other job sites are in niches besides software engineering or focus on a small portion of engineering jobs (like a specific coding language). In the words of Morgan, our founder, “I think what makes EchoJobs different is the amount of jobs, frequency that we add new jobs (we add 2,000-3,000 new jobs daily!), and the powerful search engines to find exactly the job you want more easily and efficiently. We can provide you with the most jobs that are vetted by us, we’ll continually find more new jobs for you, and we make it easier for you to apply and get hired.
