Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong command of SolidWorks to join a Ukrainian engineering company that is a part of an international engineering and manufacturing holding.

The company specializes in the design, development, and production of specialized machinery and equipment for the manufacturing sector, and combines Western engineering standards with deep local expertise. The Company's mission centers on scaling, modernizing, and advancing technologies that directly strengthen Ukraine’s manufacturing capabilities.

The primary focus of this position involves designing and developing specialized machinery for ammunition and energetics handling equipment, with particular emphasis on creating detailed machine assembly drawings for complex press-type operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 2D assembly drawings and 3D models for complex mechanical systems, with a focus on press-type machinery used in ammunition and energetics handling.

• Translate existing physical (paper-based) drawings into accurate digital SolidWorks models.

• Build complete machine models from scratch based on conceptual designs, technical specifications, and engineering requirements.

• Integrate purchased and off-the-shelf components using industry best practices (proper mating, constraints, configurations, and BOM management).

• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to optimize designs for production efficiency, cost, and reliability.

• Perform strength, stability, and durability calculations for structures (analytical and FEM methods) and optimize mass and dimensional characteristics.

• Prepare a full package of technical documentation: specifications, technological maps, bills of materials (BOMs), assembly instructions, product passports, and drawings compliant with relevant standards (ESKD, GOST, ISO, ASME, as applicable).

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, safety, procurement, electronics/optics integration) to ensure designs meet all operational and safety requirements.

• Participate in technical design reviews, prototype testing, and certification processes.

• Travel within Ukraine as needed to evaluate and document existing machinery in operational use, gaining firsthand knowledge of the equipment.

• Modernize and improve existing solutions to increase reliability, accuracy, and reduce weight and energy consumption.

• Conduct technical root-cause analysis of problems, failures, or damage and develop corrective actions.

• Integrate modern technologies where applicable: 3D printing, composite materials, modular structures, and shock absorption systems.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of proven professional experience in mechanical design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating complex assembly drawings and 3D modeling.

• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (modeling, assemblies, drawings, PDM) and AutoCAD (2D drafting).

• Solid understanding of engineering drawing standards (ESKD, GOST, ISO, ASME, as applicable).

• Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), tolerance analysis, and GD&T.

• Knowledge of the component base: optimal selection of fasteners, rolled metal, and materials for specific structures.

• Professional working proficiency in English: reading technical documentation, writing reports, and communicating with international teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Higher technical education (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) in Mechanical Engineering, Machine Building, or a related field from an accredited Ukrainian or international university.

• Experience designing equipment for ammunition processing, energetics handling, or similar high-precision/high-safety applications.

• Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA), motion studies, or simulation tools in SolidWorks.

• Experience working with pressure vessels, hydraulic/pneumatic presses, or automated loading/unloading systems.

• Experience working with composite materials, knowledge of their production technologies, and design features.

• Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and their application in prototyping.
