Description

At Render we are building a powerful, easy-to-use cloud platform to host anything online: from simple static sites to complex applications with dozens of microservices. Render offers the flexibility of traditional cloud providers without their complexity and maintenance headaches so developers and businesses can focus on building products instead of managing servers.

We're a talented and diverse group solving a problem faced by every development team. We iterate quickly while placing the utmost importance on user experience, quality, and reliability. We push ourselves to do better every day. Our organic, product-led growth has already attracted over a million developers.

Applying to Render:

We're looking for candidates with high integrity, low ego, and an insatiable drive to learn. We use reasoned discussion and constant feedback to improve as individuals and as a company. We cultivate mutual trust and respect, empowering us to debate ideas effectively and create the best outcomes for our customers and our team.

We especially encourage members of underrepresented groups in the tech community to apply and understand that not all successful candidates will meet each requirement listed.

Our interview process is unique to each role, and we value the candidate experience just as much as our customer experience. We hope your conversations with us reflect a thoughtful process that is illuminative, enjoyable, and respectful of your time.

About the role:

As the Head of Developer Relations at Render, you will lead our Developer Relations team to build a vibrant and engaged developer community. You will drive the overall strategy and execution of developer outreach, community building, and advocacy programs.

This role requires you to work closely with product, marketing, and engineering teams to align DevRel initiatives with our business goals and GTM strategy. You will create and manage technical content, events, partnerships, and programs that showcase Render's capabilities and foster meaningful connections with Render's developer community. Additionally, you will measure and demonstrate the impact of DevRel activities, ensuring that our efforts contribute to the company's growth and success.

You will:

  • Lead the Developer Relations function, managing and growing a high-performing team.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Developer Relations strategy and roadmap that aligns with Render’s business goals.
  • Develop and implement an overall strategy to engage with, educate, expand, and manage developer communities, fostering a sense of excitement and engagement.
  • Engage with developer communities (including our own) and partners to collaborate on content, events, code contributions, talks, and anything to drive the adoption of Render.
  • Identify active, influential, and knowledgeable community members who could be potential leads for Render initiatives and foster relationships with these individuals to encourage their continued engagement.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and demonstrate the success of DevRel programs and initiatives.
  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative environment within the developer community.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of high-quality technical content such as blog posts, guides, videos, and webinars.
  • Collaborate with the product and marketing teams to develop programs and content highlighting new features and use cases for Render.
  • Act as the voice of the developer community within Render, providing feedback to product and engineering teams and empower your team to do the same.
  • Advocate for developers’ needs and work with internal teams to enhance the developer experience.
  • Support product launches and provide technical guidance to ensure developers can leverage new features effectively.

What we're looking for:

  • You have 7+ years of experience developing and executing developer relations or community advocacy programs from zero to one with measurable impact.
  • You have experience managing a developer relations team or similar, perhaps as a manager, senior manager, or director.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to build and nurture developer communities and have a deep understanding of developer needs and challenges.
  • You have the ability to engage and inspire developers through public speaking and community engagement.
  • You have a proven track record of attracting, developing, and growing talented and high-performing teams.
  • You value diversity, equity, and inclusion and are committed to building healthy teams that reflect these values.
  • You are comfortable with the trade-offs and ambiguity inherent in early-stage startups. You are skilled at driving decisions and uniting stakeholders when disagreements or conflicting constraints occur.
  • You have excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, and you can simplify complex technical concepts.
  • You have experience creating technical content and a keen eye for quality and detail.

Nice-to-haves:

  • You have a technical background with professional experience in software development, preferably with cloud platforms or developer tools.
  • You have experience with technologies commonly used by Render’s customers, such as Node.js, Python, Ruby, Docker, and microservices architecture.
  • You have a strong personal brand and network within the developer community.

Benefits

  • Our openings span more than one career level. The starting salary for this role is between $210,000 and $250,000 USD. The provided salary depends on many factors, such as work experience and transferable skills, business needs and impact, and market demands.
  • The opportunity is eligible for equity with early exercise options and extended exercise windows.
  • 4 weeks of paid vacation, available from day one.
  • 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child. We will also work with you to create a supportive plan of return.
  • Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401K plans.
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and a dependent. FSAs are available as well.
  • Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health, therapy, hobbies, etc.
  • Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy.
  • Commuter benefits for Renders in the Bay Area and home office stipends for remote Renders.
  • Continuous learning benefits & related support.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We prioritize job seekers as our customers, unlike bigger job sites, by charging a small fee to provide them with curated access to the best companies and up-to-date jobs. This focus allows us to deliver a more personalized and effective job search experience.
  • Salaries for the engineering jobs on our site range from $100K-$200K. On average, senior engineer positions on our EchoJobs are about $160K.
  • The EchoJobs positions have been sourced and vetted from the top companies to work for in the US as a software engineer, including LinkedIn and other reputable job sites. We also have syndicated jobs from companies that have just raised funding, as well as those that have great unique products and culture. From all of these sources, our founder, Morgan, has also resourced the company's authenticity in terms of their website, public appearance, and more.
  • Yes, our users asked us for just this, so now our search filters allow you to search for your top jobs via location, as well as by onsite, remote, or both. Approximately 30% of our jobs are remote, so you’ve got the best options for you!
  • We have not yet implemented this option, but are considering doing so in the future. For the moment, you would need to cancel your subscription, and resubscribe when you wanted to come back.
  • We add new jobs to EchoJobs every day! We scan our sources for the newest jobs, verify them, and post them to EchoJobs within minutes. We add about 2,000-3,000 new jobs for you each day!
  • From starting your job search to getting hired, the entire job search process can take us software engineers anywhere between 3-6 months. However, at EchoJobs, we’re striving to shorten this duration by finding the best, newest jobs for you, so you can do less job searching, and more applying.
  • We’d recommend checking EchoJobs daily, as we add new jobs to the site each day. Additionally, if you got a chance to read our previous email on “what makes EchoJobs different from any other job search tools,” we also recommended that you set a job alert based on your job filters, so if you get emails on those new jobs, you could be checking more than once per day.
  • If you decide to continue with us after the 1-month trial, we definitely recommend this, as we all know it usually takes 3-6 months to find a quality job as a software engineer these days. So to best support you, we just adjusted our membership options at EchoJobs to monthly, 3 months, or 12 months (this option is more for passive job seekers looking a little bit for the future if they want to come back to work or make a job switch potentially. This lets you see what’s out there in case an even better fit job becomes available.)
  • EchoJobs is truly the only job site of its kind. We want to be THE spot for you to find the best job for you, and haven’t encountered any other company doing this. Other job sites are in niches besides software engineering or focus on a small portion of engineering jobs (like a specific coding language). In the words of Morgan, our founder, “I think what makes EchoJobs different is the amount of jobs, frequency that we add new jobs (we add 2,000-3,000 new jobs daily!), and the powerful search engines to find exactly the job you want more easily and efficiently. We can provide you with the most jobs that are vetted by us, we’ll continually find more new jobs for you, and we make it easier for you to apply and get hired.
