About Our Team 

Our team works on Adobe Commerce (also known as Magento 2), which is integrated with upstream Elsevier sales, customer and product management systems, and downstream order management/fulfillment engines. 

About the Role 

As a Senior Software Engineer for Magento eCommerce (B2B/B2C), you will collaborate with global, cross-functional teams to advance the strategic development of our core multi-region eCommerce platform. Your responsibilities will include conducting research, design, and software assignments, while also contributing to project planning. You will work closely with our Lead Software Engineer on solution design and implementation as we transition our diverse technology landscape into a more standardized platform.

Responsibilities 

• Turn prioritized backlog items into released features. 

• Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of complex system components. 

• Debug and complete complex bug fixes. 

• Resolve complex technical issues as necessary. 

• Understand the complexity of features/tasks and forecast risks. 

• Design and work with complex data models. 

• Collaborate with other development team members to understand complex product requirements and translate them into software designs. 

• Operate in various development environments (e.g., Agile) while collaborating with key stakeholders. 

• Ensure up-to-date, appropriate platform documentation is available, and knowledge sharing is enabled. 

• Break down complex product requirements into small work tasks for agile sprints. 

• Mentor less-senior software developers on development methodologies and optimization techniques. 

• Manage deployments and create release notes. 

• Stay updated on new technological developments. 

Requirements 

• 6+ years of experience in software engineering. 

• Experience coordinating with other internal development groups. 

• Expert knowledge of Magento 2 with demonstrable experience in delivering enterprise-scale eCommerce capability. 

• Experience in a complex heterogeneous eCommerce environment. 

• Proven ability to manage and resolve complex technical challenges in a platform context. 

• Experience with service-based eCommerce system integration (real-time, batch, sync/async). 

• Deep understanding of Magento’s capabilities (multiple sites/stores/views, cross-selling capability, currency and tax, subscription-based and digital products, promotions/trials/bundles/promotion rules). 

• Experience with Magento’s B2B functionality like Company management, Purchase order approvals, Requisition lists, Shared catalogs. 

• Knowledge of Magento Plugins and their effective selection from the Marketplace and/or custom design and implementation. 

• Experience in integrating Magento with other business systems (inventory/product feeds, payment gateways, fulfillment chains, CMS). 

• Proficiency in PHP, MySQL, HTML, JavaScript, Knockout Js, and related technologies. 

• Experience with Magento 2 architecture, including themes, modules, and extensions. 

• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and third-party integrations. 

• Understanding of e-commerce concepts and best practices. 

• Experience with version control systems, such as Git. 

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 

• Strong communication and collaboration skills. 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
