Backend Engineer

As a Backend Engineer at Rekor, you will be responsible for productizing ML models by designing, implementing, and supporting production grade ML services. Additionally, you will be responsible for our data-infrastructure from end to end starting with data feeds integrations, data pipelines, data-stores, ETL and feature engineering jobs all the way to serving the data to our stakeholders: the DS team, ML models in production, analysts and BI. This position is part of the growing Data team which is composed of talented scientists, analysts and engineers that keep our data flowing from connected vehicles and AI-enabled Edge Cameras, and that serve up insights and predictions directly into our portfolio of customer-facing products.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Take ML models from the research phase and transform them into production-grade, highly scalable ML services that serve insights both in real-time and in batch modes. 
• Take part in designing and developing our data infrastructure. 
• Take part in architecting, designing and developing our data ingestion pipelines from external systems, handling millions of events daily. 
• Take ownership of ETLs from the organization’s DBs into our data-lake. 
• Develop and design feature engineering jobs that aggregate our data and serve our ML models, dashboards and BI while handling big data. 

• 4+ years of proven backend development experience in Python/Java/Kotlin/Scala 
• Experience working with distributed, microservice based architectures that handle high traffic and volume of events. 
• Experience working with high data and traffic technologies such as: Kafka, Kinesis, Redis 
•  Deep knowledge and experience working with both RDBMS and NoSQL databases with high proficiency writing complex SQLs (PostgreSQL/MySQL/MongoDB/DynamoDB/Athena/Redshift/ Snowflake etc.) 
• Solid understanding of cloud services, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and Kubernetes – Advantage   

Education: 

BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent technical field
