Your work will change lives. Including your own.
The Impact You’ll Make
Recursion is at the forefront of reimagining drug discovery and development through broadening the funnel of potential targets, using technology and standardization to build connected data. As Head of Clinical Biomarkers, you will manage a team of bioanalytical and biomarker scientists, and will be responsible for providing biomarker support for Recursion’s Clinical Development portfolio constituting ~10 programs in early development with a mix of oncology and rare disease indications. You will leverage your deep understanding of the scientific, regulatory and logistical aspects of biomarkers, to implement appropriate biomarker measurements that enable clinical decision making, and the development of safe and effective medicines to address unmet medical needs.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the clinical biomarker function at Recursion and ensure that clinical decisions are being informed by high quality biomarker data; represent the function at key leadership meetings
- Develop and implement fit-for-purpose biomarker strategies for programs entering the clinic by working closely with drug discovery functions
- Implement innovative, noninvasive technologies for the measurement of oncology biomarkers and explore ways to feed clinical data back into Recursion’s operating system
- Manage a group of biomarker and bioanalytical scientists and support their career development while ensuring high quality delivery on the portfolio
- Drive the development and qualification of predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarker assays by working with appropriate CROs
- Collaborate with data science functions to analyze and interpret biomarker data including omics datasets to enable clinical decision making
The Team You’ll Join
You will join the Development Sciences team, will report to the VP of Development Sciences, and will be part of the Clinical Development organization at Recursion. The Development Sciences team is a group of project-facing Translational scientists that supports the transition of projects from discovery into clinical development and beyond. Core functions within this team include translational PK/PD modeling, clinical pharmacology, clinical bioanalysis and biomarkers. This is a collaborative group of scientists who: 1) work closely with discovery to ensure the progression of the right molecule at the right dose for the right patient, 2) support IND filings, and 3) ensure the continued implementation of the appropriate translational strategies for projects in clinical development. In this role you will have the opportunity to work seamlessly with the drug discovery and clinical development organizations at Recursion to ensure that we apply the best science in service of the portfolio.
The Experience You’ll Need
- PhD with 10+ years or MS with 15+ years of experience as a biomarker and/or translational scientist in the biopharmaceutical industry
- Degree in biology, biochemistry, or related biomedical discipline
- Strong hands-on experience with clinical biomarker assay development and qualification; experience in an oncology setting preferred
- Extensive experience contributing as a senior biomarker scientist to clinical study teams including contributing to protocols, working closely with clinical operations on logistics, and with data science/bioinformatics groups on data analysis and interpretation
- Strong working knowledge of various platforms and technologies applied for the measurement of predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers including ‘omics technologies
- Knowledge of regulatory expectations (FDA and EMA) and industry's best practices in bioanalytical and biomarker/diagnostic assay method development and validation
- People management experience preferred
