About the role

As Director of Engineering, you will lead and scale multiple high-performing engineering teams, drive technical strategy, and build a strong engineering culture. You will play a critical role in shaping the company’s technical direction while ensuring that we continue to deliver a world-class, AI-driven financial platform.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will collaborate with product, design, and other business functions to align engineering efforts with company goals. You will be responsible for hiring and mentoring top engineering talent, establishing best practices, and ensuring operational excellence across the organization.

This role is based at Range's Headquarters in McLean, VA or one of our hubs in New York City or Seattle. Employees hired for this position will work in office Monday-Friday. If you are not currently located in one of these areas, your willingness to relocate will be a contingency for employment.

What you’ll do with us

• Build, lead, and scale multiple engineering teams to support our growing product and technology needs.

• Define and execute a long-term engineering vision that aligns with company objectives.

• Establish and champion engineering best practices, ensuring code quality, security, and scalability.

• Drive architectural decisions that enable Range to scale efficiently while maintaining reliability.

• Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and collaboration within the engineering organization.

• Hire, mentor, and develop engineers and engineering managers, ensuring career growth and technical excellence.

• Work cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions.

• Own and improve engineering processes, from development workflows to incident management.

• Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure Range remains at the forefront of fintech and AI.

What will set you apart

• Experience leading and scaling engineering teams in a high-growth startup or fast-paced environment.

• Strong technical background, with experience in fintech, AI, or large-scale distributed systems preferred.

• Excellent leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing engineers and managers.

• Ability to set and execute technical strategy, balancing speed and scalability.

• Strong product instincts—you think beyond engineering and understand user impact.

• Experience working across the stack, including backend services, frontend applications, and infrastructure.

• Proficiency in cloud platforms like AWS and modern development frameworks.

• Startup experience—comfortable solving ambiguous problems, wearing multiple hats, and moving quickly.
