Department Overview

Rakuten Ichiba, operated by Rakuten Group, has grown as a mall-type business, but to achieve further growth, it is expanding its B2C business.

In the B2C services, Rakuten Group handles everything from procurement and inventory management to sales and shipping, developing a variety of businesses both large and small.

EC First Party Development Department (ECFD) is responsible for the system development of these services. It works closely with various services that form Rakuten ecosystem, such as the business divisions, Rakuten members, and Rakuten Points, accelerating the expansion of services.

The services operated by EC First Party Development Department (ECFD) are as follows:

- Rakuten 24 (daily necessities sales)

- Rakuten Fashion (fashion products sales)

- Rakuten Bic (home appliances sales)

- POSA (prepaid card sales)

- Rakuten Books Download (downloadable content sales)

Position Details

As a Senior DevOps/SRE Architect, you will lead the design and implementation efforts to enhance the reliability, availability, and scalability of ECFD's infrastructure. In this role, you will act as a bridge between the development and operations teams, optimizing system performance and efficiency while ensuring rapid response to incidents. Additionally, you will promote DevOps culture and practices, enabling continuous delivery and integration.

- Designing and formulating infrastructure architecture

- Designing and implementing systems with high availability and scalability in mind

- Developing and implementing automation tools and processes

- Designing and implementing monitoring, alerting, and dashboard solutions

- Leading incident response and post-mortem analysis

- Collaborating with development teams to optimize code deployment and release processes

- Designing and implementing continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines

- Implementing security and compliance best practices

- Conducting ongoing performance tuning and capacity planning

- Evaluating new technologies and leading the planning and execution of their adoption within the department

 

Work Environment

The entire ECFD department consists of just under 150 full-time employees. The group responsible for DevOps/SRE includes approximately 25 members, comprising both full-time employees and partner company staff.

The majority of our hires are mid-career professionals from both domestic and international backgrounds. Employees come from various sectors, including software vendors, user-based companies, and independent system integrators (SIs), leveraging their diverse experiences. In recent years, we have also been strengthening our recruitment and development of new graduates and young professionals, resulting in an increasing number of them becoming central members of our development team.

The workspace is equipped with wireless LAN, allowing teams to freely engage in development activities. They can have discussions while writing on whiteboard walls, conduct mob programming sessions using large monitors, or focus on individual tasks in partitioned spaces.

Mandatory Qualifications:

- 7+ years of experience in developing and operating large-scale or medium-scale web services

- 5+ years of engineering experience in the fields of DevOps and SRE

- 5+ years of experience in building and operating infrastructure on at least one public cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure, etc.) and private cloud

- 5+ years of experience in building and operating infrastructure using container technologies (Docker/Kubernetes)

- 5+ years of experience in building and operating infrastructure automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.)

- 5+ years of experience in operating monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, etc.)

- 5+ years of experience in building and operating continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines

- 3+ years of experience in developing and operating systems using microservices

- Experience in designing and operating high-availability systems

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively within a team

- Ability to create highly readable technical documentation that accurately conveys information to the reader

 

Desired Qualifications:

- Experience in developing and operating e-commerce sites

- Experience in building and operating infrastructure on multiple public clouds (GCP, AWS, Azure) and private clouds

- Experience contributing to open-source communities
