We have multiple positions available for our 4-month Machine Learning Research internship program. As Machine Learning Research Intern, you will prototype, implement, and develop new fundamental and impactful methods in our research areas or in topics fitting your background. The internship program gives you a unique opportunity to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence and publish at scientific conferences. You will join a team of talented and experienced researchers and engineers and become part of our collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. You will work at our office located at the campus of the University of Amsterdam and live in a scenic, vibrant city with high living standards, numerous cultural activities, and plenty of green spaces.

Our research areas include:

• Model efficiency: Advancing efficiency of generative models with innovations in model quantization, compression, sparsity, conditional computation (e.g., mixture of experts), application to LLMs/LVMs/multi-modal models.
• Generative vision: Research on deep generative modeling of images, videos and 3D objects to make them more efficient and effective to solve perception tasks.
• Neural reasoning: Advanced research in agentic AI & multi-modal reasoning using foundation models and reinforcement learning, with applications to, e.g., code generation, embodied AI & robotics.
• Distributed learning: Distributed training, continuous learning, efficient on-device learning & personalization, model adaptation, and privacy-preserving federated learning.
• LLM research: LLM evaluation, alignment and safety, retrieval augmented generation, agentic LLMs
• Reinforcement learning: Offline RL, Simulation-based policy learning, model predictive control, learning differentiable world models.

We welcome applications from motivated PhD candidates. Applicants must be enrolled in their PhD degree program for the duration of the internship. Ideal applicants are currently pursuing a PhD with focus on machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer vision, or foundation models (LLMs/LVMs) and have proven research ability, e.g., having published at relevant academic conferences (NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV etc.).
