Automation QA Engineer

Department: Software Testing

Experience: 2 - 5 years

Skills: SDLC, AI-driven testing, Test Strategies, Automation Testing, Quality Risk Analysis, Quality Assurance, Database testing, Playwright

Procedure is hiring for Timely. You will be on Procedure's payroll.

Who are we:
We founded Timely to build the tool we wish we'd had when we were in schools -- hoping to save hundreds of hours of wasted time while helping schools develop better schedules that enable their academic, budget and staffing priorities. Our solution addresses the needs of school-based employees who toil away building schedules and central office employees who need visibility into them.

The school schedule reflects values and priorities. With 75 to 90% of a district budget dedicated to personnel, there are few questions more paramount than how your staff and students spend their time every day, what positions you need, how many teachers you will hire, and how students will interact with them. Strategic resource allocation across schools, proper access to core courses and electives, and dedicated support to sub-groups begins with the development of a school schedule.

Timely is your home for secondary scheduling featuring AI optimisation and support from a team of former educators who know and have lived scheduling. Not only does Timely save time and headaches, but it also unlocks resources so district and charter leaders can build a schedule that aligns with their vision.

About the role:
This role is an Automation QA Engineer position focused on the core Timely application. You will be responsible for defining and executing comprehensive test strategies that ensure high-quality software delivery. You will work closely with product and engineering teams to identify quality risks and opportunities, contributing to both manual and automated testing efforts to improve the overall stability and performance of our core application.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand product objectives of the core Timely scheduling application and translate those into comprehensive test plans that the team and automation can leverage. Ensure testing includes data flows from ingestion to the database to the optimization algorithm, depending on priority/bandwidth.
  • Conduct detailed exploratory testing and opportunistic testing on major features continuously.
  • Establish and manage data fixtures for effective testing.
  • Own the process of automating common tests and speeding up the QA cycle.
  • Leverage AI to accelerate both testing efforts and the identification/correction of issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to integrate quality practices into the development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience in quality assurance or software testing.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks (Playwright is good to have) and tools.
  • Ability to quickly learn new product areas and develop a strong, detailed understanding of nuances of complex products to inform robust testing strategies.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Ability to design and implement effective test plans and data strategies.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills: from understanding product/technology concerns, to proactively partnering with teammates on project goals and timelines, to providing effective feedback and updates on your areas of ownership.
  • Proactive in identifying process improvements and leveraging new technologies (like AI) to improve testing efficiency.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Prior experience in EdTech is a plus.

Why join us?

  • Work with an exceptional team tackling meaningful challenges in education.
  • Tackle challenging problems with an opportunity to leverage new technologies like agentic AI systems.
  • Be part of a growing, financially healthy company with a proven product.

Hiring Process:

  • Application submission
  • L1 - AI Interview for shortlisted candidates
  • L2 - Panel Interview
  • L3 - Final discussion with the CTO
  • Offer process
