About Plix
Plix is a seed-stage startup with Stanford roots, supported by Samsara, Verkada, and Sequoia Capital. We are building the world’s first AI body cameras to provide real-time situational alerts to improve safety, security, and operational efficiency.

Position Overview
We’re looking for an engineering intern to help build a next-generation battery-powered rapid response camera, leveraging our existing body camera prototype. This role is ideal for someone with experience working on embedded Android systems and a deep understanding of optimizing computer vision applications for constrained environments (like battery and thermal limits). You’ll be working closely with the founding team to design and deploy a field-ready product. Start date is flexible.

Responsibilities
  • Build and iterate on embedded Android software for a battery-operated body camera system
  • Optimize vision models and pipeline runtime performance to extend battery life
  • Profile and manage power consumption across compute, sensor, and wireless subsystems
  • Integrate computer vision models for motion detection, real-time alerting, or object recognition
  • Debug and improve system stability, telemetry, and update processes for edge devices
  • Collaborate with the founding team to define hardware/software tradeoffs and product direction

Requirements
  • Experience developing for embedded Android systems (AOSP, HAL, low-level services)
  • Strong understanding of power management and performance optimization in constrained devices
  • Familiarity with battery profiling tools and techniques for Android or Linux-based devices
  • Proficient in C++, Python, and/or Java/Kotlin
  • Hands-on experience with deploying computer vision pipelines
  • Able to work independently and iterate quickly in a startup environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with hardware bring-up, firmware, and interfacing with camera sensors and radios (e.g., LTE, Wi-Fi)
  • Experience working with real-time alerting systems or low-latency media pipelines
  • Previous work on robotics, drones, IoT, or camera-enabled hardware products
  • Comfort working with Docker, GitHub Actions, or CI/CD for embedded systems
  • Prior startup or early-stage prototyping experience
