Junior QA Tester

Location: Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia

Department: Production, Quality Assurance

Workplace: hybrid

Employment Type: full

Description

Who we are:

PikPok is a global video game studio with more than 25 years of experience, with offices in New Zealand and Colombia. In New Zealand, we operate as a medium-sized company, while the current structure in Colombia is that of a small business. Our team is multicultural, making English the primary working language.

We have a portfolio that spans games at various stages of the product lifecycle, supported by diverse revenue models, with a presence on mobile, PC, consoles, and virtual reality platforms. Today, we distribute our titles in more than 30 countries, connecting with players around the world.

About the role:

We are looking for a Junior QA Tester who contributes to the quality and stability of our games through structured testing, clear documentation, and reliable execution of defined QA processes. The role focuses on delivering testing activities with accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail.

You will work within established frameworks, executing tests, identifying issues, and supporting high-quality player experiences, while progressively building autonomy and understanding of how your work connects to the broader product.

We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement. We value curiosity, a willingness to learn, and diverse experiences. If you’re motivated to grow in QA and excited about contributing to our games, we’d love to hear from you.

The Junior QA Tester’s responsibilities include:

  • Develop a solid understanding of the product, its features, and supported platforms by reviewing documentation, playing the game, and participating in team discussions, applying this context to testing activities.
  • Execute testing tasks within a defined scope, validating functionality, stability, and expected behavior, while ensuring results are accurately recorded using test management tools.
  • Design and organize test cases for assigned features or builds, selecting appropriate scenarios and ensuring test execution is complete, reliable, and traceable.
  • Perform exploratory testing within assigned areas to identify unexpected behaviors, usability issues, and edge cases that may impact the player experience.
  • Identify, document, and report defects clearly, providing reliable reproduction steps and supporting evidence, and verify fixes while monitoring for regressions.
  • Manage assigned testing work with a high level of organization, meeting deadlines and quality standards with increasing autonomy.
  • Communicate testing progress, results, and blockers clearly with QA and product team members, contributing to alignment during development cycles.
  • Collaborate with developers and designers to clarify requirements, acceptance criteria, and testing expectations.
  • Apply QA processes, standards, and tools consistently, while identifying opportunities for small improvements in day-to-day testing activities.
  • Continuously develop testing skills and product knowledge by incorporating feedback, learning from past issues, and reflecting on testing outcomes.

Requirements

The QA Tester’s required knowledge and experience should include:

  • English proficiency (B2 or higher), with the ability to understand documentation, write clear defect reports, and communicate effectively with QA and product teams. (Assessed)
  • Understanding of the video game development lifecycle and how QA activities integrate across stages such as feature development, iteration, release preparation, and post-fix validation.
  • Knowledge of software testing principles and QA practices, including functional, regression, and exploratory testing.
  • Familiarity with test case management and execution, including selecting appropriate test scenarios, recording results accurately, and maintaining traceability using test management tools.
  • Practical knowledge of defect reporting and tracking, including clear documentation of issues with reproduction steps, expected vs. actual results, and supporting evidence.
  • Understanding of quality standards and acceptance criteria, and how to apply them when validating functionality, stability, and player experience.
  • Awareness of test environments, builds, and configurations, including how different devices, systems, or settings can impact behavior and results.
  • Basic knowledge of supported platforms (e.g., mobile, PC, console, VR) and how platform differences may affect gameplay, performance, or defect reproduction.

Other desirable knowledge

  • Basic understanding of software development concepts and terminology, supporting clearer communication with developers and interpretation of technical issues.
  • Introductory knowledge of programming or scripting (e.g., understanding code structure, variables, or simple logic), helpful for analyzing defects and collaborating with developers.
  • Awareness of video game mechanics and player experience principles, contributing to more player-focused testing and usability evaluation.
  • Familiarity with exploratory testing techniques, including testing edge cases and varying inputs beyond predefined scenarios.
  • Understanding of Agile or iterative development workflows (e.g., sprints, stand-ups, backlog refinement) and how QA activities fit within them.

Benefits

  • Hybrid work. PikPok has a flexible approach to splitting your time between working in the office and working from home.
  • Health insurance.
  • One-time home buyer bonus.
  • Staff referral recruitment bonus.
  • Partial rebate on mobile phone and tablet upgrades.
  • Monthly self-directed Lab Days, annual game jams, and a variety of training and learning opportunities.
