Description

Philo is looking for an ownership-oriented IT leader to help deliver a phenomenal IT experience for Philo’s growing team of 130+ employees. You will be Philo’s “go-to” IT person for all our employees, working with both our office management team as well as technical leaders at the company to think proactively and address all our IT needs.

Initially, the role will entail working in a hybrid capacity, leading Philo’s IT services while coordinating and collaborating with Philo’s 3rd party IT partner and their service desk team. However, this role has the potential to grow into a larger leadership position as we build out a larger full time Philo IT team in the future. As the owner of all things IT, you will have a tremendous impact on the productivity and workplace happiness of the Philo team at large, and lots of opportunity to think creatively and come up with innovative solutions to our daily digital challenges.

The role will be primarily based in our HQ in San Francisco, but in addition to supporting our HQ team you will also be supporting our entire team including fully remote workers and our satellite offices in New York City and Cambridge, MA. We are a fun and collaborative team who highly values our work relationships – we pride ourselves on having fun while we build great stuff, so we’re looking for someone with a good sense of humor who can handle a mini IT crisis in stride!

Role and Responsibilities (what you will be doing):

  • Help coordinate and deliver a comprehensively excellent IT experience for all Philo employees, including:
    • Account provisioning for onboarding/offboarding of employees.
    • Procurement of hardware and related digital asset management.
    • Providing basic introductory training on Philo’s IT systems and practices to new employees (e.g. how to use a password manager and SSO).
    • Managing onsite infrastructure (e.g. networking, teleconference equipment, and device lab) in our three offices.
    • Day-to-day helpdesk and remote support for endpoint and software issues.
  • Lead and manage larger scope IT projects and systems (e.g. SSO, MDM, backup, endpoint security, A/V in meeting spaces, etc).
  • Proactively identify and anticipate shortcomings in Philo’s IT infrastructure or employee experience, and develop and deliver a plan to improve it, collaborating with other colleagues as needed.
  • Work closely with Philo’s IT service partner to coordinate both near term service desk response as well as longer term projects.
  • Manage relationships with Philo’s external IT vendors, e.g. networking, hardware and SaaS vendors.
    • Coordinate and arrange remote onsite IT help for Philo’s two satellite offices (Brooklyn, NY and Cambridge, MA) as needed.
    • Generally stop all of the IT-related bucks.

Qualifications (who you are and experience):

  • Excellent interpersonal skills: personable “people person” along with fantastic written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences as appropriate.
  • At least 5 years of experience delivering comprehensive IT services, including both hardware and software responsibilities, with strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective, versatile and action-oriented: you have a strong bias towards getting things done quickly and correctly.
  • Superb command of Simpsons, Game of Thrones, Star Wars and Star Trek references. Expert user of the /giphy command in slack.
  • Superlative time management skills: you have a keen ability to prioritize and balance a varied set of near-term tasks and longer term projects. We’re looking for someone who can ensure that urgent tasks get resolved quickly, while continuing to make steady forward progress on longer term projects and initiatives.
  • Follow through: You take care of things after being asked only once. You have the ability to work independently without direct oversight for most things, but also a good sense of when to reach out for help from a co-worker if you get stuck or need someone’s input to move a project forward. We support each other!
  • Top-notch Googling skills and a healthy skepticism of generative AI
  • Solid grounding in core enterprise applications, including SSO, MDM, security, and backup.
  • Experience in systems and network design and development. Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (Wi-Fi, VPN, routing, etc.) Experience with Cisco Meraki environments is a plus.
  • Proven experience with Zoom administration and Zoom Room hardware.
  • Proven track record managing IT vendor relationships, including product evaluation, coordinating legal review of contracts, and pricing negotiation.
  • Proven project management experience from initiation to close, and strong record of documentation (i.e. you don’t just get things done, you document them clearly and comprehensively, enabling other team members to follow in your footsteps with minimal repetition).
  • Opinionated on best practices, but pragmatic and flexible on how to get there.
  • This role is based in San Francisco and will spend the majority of their time in our SF HQ office to enable hands-on management of our onsite needs. However, it would have the flexibility to work from home periodically depending on workload and the onsite needs in a given week.

Nice-to-have skills:

  • Ideally experience with our core IT stack, which includes Slack, GSuite, Notion, Zoom, 1Password,  Kandji, etc.
  • Experience with AWS cloud environments, e.g. IAM, EC2, Route53

Projected Start Date: ASAP
Status: Full-time
Location: San Francisco, CA
Compensation: Includes an annual salary between $145K-$175K depending on experience, company stock options and health benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Salaries for the engineering jobs on our site range from $100K-$200K. On average, senior engineer positions on our EchoJobs are about $160K.
  • The EchoJobs positions have been sourced and vetted from the top companies to work for in the US as a software engineer, including LinkedIn and other reputable job sites. We also have syndicated jobs from companies that have just raised funding, as well as those that have great unique products and culture. From all of these sources, our founder, Morgan, has also resourced the company's authenticity in terms of their website, public appearance, and more.
  • Yes, our users asked us for just this, so now our search filters allow you to search for your top jobs via location, as well as by onsite, remote, or both. Approximately 30% of our jobs are remote, so you’ve got the best options for you!
  • We have not yet implemented this option, but are considering doing so in the future. For the moment, you would need to cancel your subscription, and resubscribe when you wanted to come back.
  • We add new jobs to EchoJobs every day! We scan our sources for the newest jobs, verify them, and post them to EchoJobs within minutes. We add about 2,000-3,000 new jobs for you each day!
  • From starting your job search to getting hired, the entire job search process can take us software engineers anywhere between 3-6 months. However, at EchoJobs, we’re striving to shorten this duration by finding the best, newest jobs for you, so you can do less job searching, and more applying.
  • We’d recommend checking EchoJobs daily, as we add new jobs to the site each day. Additionally, if you got a chance to read our previous email on “what makes EchoJobs different from any other job search tools,” we also recommended that you set a job alert based on your job filters, so if you get emails on those new jobs, you could be checking more than once per day.
  • If you decide to continue with us after the 1-month trial, we definitely recommend this, as we all know it usually takes 3-6 months to find a quality job as a software engineer these days. So to best support you, we just adjusted our membership options at EchoJobs to monthly, 3 months, or 12 months (this option is more for passive job seekers looking a little bit for the future if they want to come back to work or make a job switch potentially. This lets you see what’s out there in case an even better fit job becomes available.)
  • EchoJobs is truly the only job site of its kind. We want to be THE spot for you to find the best job for you, and haven’t encountered any other company doing this. Other job sites are in niches besides software engineering or focus on a small portion of engineering jobs (like a specific coding language). In the words of Morgan, our founder, “I think what makes EchoJobs different is the amount of jobs, frequency that we add new jobs (we add 2,000-3,000 new jobs daily!), and the powerful search engines to find exactly the job you want more easily and efficiently. We can provide you with the most jobs that are vetted by us, we’ll continually find more new jobs for you, and we make it easier for you to apply and get hired.
