Senior Manager, Data Scientist

ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer Digital’s Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Analytics organization (AIDA) leverages data science and advanced analytics to change patient’s lives.  The R&D team under AIDA partners with business stakeholders to drive analytic capabilities, accelerating business insights and providing value for decision making. The R&D Data Science team under AIDA R&D accomplishes this through a focus on the use of data from inside and outside the organization, analyzed by a team of data scientists, in response to business partners to perform analyses that advance our portfolio.

In the R&D team, the Senior Manager Data Scientist is a very important role in advancing AI and analytic methods, generating valuable insights using internal and external data sources. The Senior Manager Data Scientist will provide leadership in maximizing the value of Pfizer’s investments in AI and analytics capabilities. She/he will work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment as the competitive landscape and advanced analytic strategies keep changing rapidly.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Manager Data Scientist will:

• Locate and analyze different types of relevant data from inside and outside of Pfizer to answer research and development questions.
• Provide leadership to and execute projects that help identify targets and enhance clinical trials in collaboration with R&D partners that have diverse scientific and informatics experiences.
• Develop, implement, and optimize AI models to solve complex R&D problems using predictive analytics and natural language processing.
• Produce actionable data presentations and visualizations that are intuitive, effective, and insightful for decision makers at senior levels throughout the organization.
• Develop Proof-of-Concept (POC) utilities for use in answering business questions with innovation, value generation and competitive edge as key differentiators; provide thought leadership and architectural know-how to scale up these utilities for mainstream use by the broader R&D community.
• Define and execute POCs using cutting edge and state of the art advanced analytic technologies.

 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• A minimum of a bachelors’ degree with 7+ years of experience or a PhD 2+ years’ experience in biological sciences or related area
• Data analysis experience with heterogeneous data types and familiarity of big data, analytics and/or data mining environments in molecular sciences
• 5+ years of programming experience with one or more data analytics tools (Python, SAS, R or SQL)
• 3+ years with a data visualization tool (e.gs., R, DASH, Spotfire, Tableau)
• Ability to build and manage models to predict outcomes using data that is often incomplete and/or imperfect and contained in disparate sources; Statistical analysis to understand and improve possible limitations in models.
• Demonstrated capabilities in integrating and analyzing heterogeneous datasets; Ability to identify trends, identify outliers and find patterns.
• Demonstrated experience in accessing and analyzing research, clinical and/or safety data
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• The ideal candidate would have the ability to prioritize activities and work independently as well as in a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred
• Understanding of Pharmaceutical R&D data preferred
• 2+ years data science experience using molecular data sets in biology and/or chemistry
• An understanding of one or more pharmaceutical domains including discovery, research, clinical, regulatory or safety would be a strong plus.
• Experience with Jupyter Notebooks and/or Shiny applications is a plus
• 2+ years of data science experience in natural language processing and semantic technologies would be a plus.
• Experience in computer vision would be a plus.
• Knowledge of deep learning techniques would be a plus.
• Experience with Electronic Medical Record and Claims data and/or public datasets a plus.
• Experience working in a cloud environment and using cloud-based services is desirable.
