Role Overview:

You will play a key role in designing and building our market leading software products as we drive to continuously increase our cloud maturity and mobility. You will be working as a key part of an agile team to design, build, test, and support PDI's enterprise software solutions. You will review, recommend & implement system enhancements that will improve the quality, performance, and maintainability of our products. You will be responsible for contributing to an always improving Engineering environment by ensuring all stakeholders (engineers, architects, product owners, SREs, IT Ops…) are informed of status and supported in their roles.
With the variety of environments, platforms, technologies & languages, you must be comfortable working in both Windows & Linux environments, including PowerShell scripting & bash, database administration as well as bare metal virtualization technologies and public cloud environments (GCP, AWS, Azure).

Key Responsibilities:

• AI-Powered POS Architecture & Implementation: Design, build, and deploy intelligent, AI-driven POS systems featuring advanced capabilities such as real-time transaction analytics, inventory intelligence, customer behavior insights, persistent session memory, and multi-step automation workflows tailored for retail and hospitality environments.
• Product Innovation: Drive the development of next-generation, AI-enabled POS platforms that enhance operational efficiency, optimize checkout experiences, and improve business decision-making through intelligent automation.
• Generative AI Integration: Seamlessly incorporate generative AI features into existing platforms, focusing on optimizing performance, ensuring a seamless UX, and maintaining strict safety compliance.
• Intelligent System Leverage: Expertly leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) and multimodal models to deliver highly intelligent, context-aware user experiences.
• Agent Quality & Evaluation: Establish and maintain frameworks for comprehensive agent evaluation, including rigorous testing, critical safety assessments, and detailed performance monitoring.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with product, UX, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex retail workflows into scalable, production-ready POS solutions powered by intelligent automation.
• Technical Mentorship: Serve as a subject matter expert in AI-enhanced POS architecture, guiding engineers on scalable system design, optimal AI integration strategies, secure payment handling, and resilient cloud-native deployments.
• Mission Alignment: Contribute to building innovative, reliable, and ethically developed AI-powered POS systems that empower businesses with actionable insights and measurable operational improvements.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 5+ years in software engineering, including 2+ years in a Senior Engineer level role leading significant technical initiatives in high-availability transactional systems.
• Agentic Systems Proficiency: Proven hands-on experience building intelligent, automation-driven systems, including workflow orchestration, context management, recommendation engines, and real-time decision-making pipelines.
• LLM Integration & Backend: Strong experience integrating LLMs and AI services into production systems, including prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and backend orchestration for intelligent reporting and automation within POS environments.
• Programming Proficiency: Expertise in at least two of the following: Pascal (Delphi), JavaScript, or C#.
• Cloud Platform Experience: Experience deploying and managing systems on at least one of the major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), utilizing containerization and implementing robust observability tooling.
• Web Application and API Development: Experience deploying and managing scalable POS systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure, utilizing containerization, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling for high-availability transactional workload.
• Data & Vector Technologies: Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings, recommendation systems, and data pipelines for customer behavior analytics and product intelligence.
• Security & Compliance Focus: Demonstrated experience designing secure systems that handle payment data, PCI compliance requirements, fraud prevention, and complex user-generated transaction inputs safely.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration skills, and the ability to autonomously drive technical initiatives from initial prototypes through to high-scale production.
