Staff Software Engineer

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Braintree Platform team, you will be responsible for design, architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable and available software which pivots the evolution of our current to the next generation platform for our PayPal Inc. payments platform teams and transformational journey for payment services and engineering of PayPal Inc. (PayPal, Braintree and so on…). You will be making key technology decisions, building & maintaining large production grade distributed systems that handle petabyte scale, providing delightful experience for PayPal and Braintree customers, merchants, brainstorming innovative ideas to help our stakeholders resolve their day-to-day problems, and helping mentor engineers.

Your day to day:

• Design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software applications, document and test systems, modify as appropriate.
• Lead projects with other engineers, architects, managers, and Product Management, QA, and Operations teams to design and develop innovative processes and create solutions that meet business requirements.
• Be a technical leader within your team and within PayPal in general.
• Provide technical and project leadership and mentoring.
• Be a valued member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team.
• Build performance sensitive systems that serve tens of millions of requests each day.
• Be an active voice in architectural decisions for PayPal’s core payments system.

Requirements: 

• Strong Ruby or strong programming abilities in Java and other languages like Python, C++
• Strong understanding of algorithmic techniques, design patterns and best practices.
• Curiosity about how things work and the behavior of finding the answers. Flexible and adapting the changing circumstances, tenacious.
• Knowledge/experience with Unix. Knowledge/experience with relational databases, NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge/experience with GitHub. Knowledge/experience with Service Oriented Architectures.

 

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years and at least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent).
