We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

What do you need to know about the role:

As a Senior Software Engineer, on the BigData Platform Engineering team, you will be responsible for design, architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable and available software which pivots the evolution of our current to the next generation platform for our PayPal Inc Big Data platform teams and transformational cloud journey for all data services and engineering of PayPal Inc (PayPal, Braintree and so on…).

BigData Platform Engineering team, you will be responsible for design, architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable and available software which pivots the evolution of our current to the next generation platform for our PayPal Inc Big Data platform teams.

Job Description:

Your way to impact:

You will be making key technology decisions, building & maintaining large production grade distributed systems that handle petabyte scale, providing delightful experience for PayPal and Braintree customers, merchants, brainstorming innovative ideas to help our stakeholders resolve their day-to-day problems, and helping mentor engineers.

Your day to day

• Build innovative, self-serviceable and scalable platforms and orchestration services to facilitate Big Data migration to public cloud in the multi-year journey of PayPal cloud journey with its subsidiaries.  

• Anchor major team workstreams to build and improve large-scale distributed systems, reduce complexity, increase automation and burn down technical debt. 

• Mentor other software engineers as a tech lead of the team 

• Induce best practices of coding, design and reusability. Effectively participate in code reviews.  

• Support production systems (Team rotation based) 

What do you need to bring:

• 6+ years of experience in software engineering with atleast 2+ in technical leadership

• 2+ plus years of designing backend and mid-tier services using REST API + one of these technologies – Golang, Spring Boot, Java

• Hands-on experience in tuning and writing scalable SQL queries

• Design and Operational Experience with large scale production grade distributed systems 

• Experience with one of the major cloud providers - AWS, Azure, GCP

• Experience in orchestration systems like Airflow, Argo. 

• Strong understanding of real time streaming technologies Spark and Kafka
