Job Description Summary:

The Compliance team is responsible for the design, development, and support of Compliance APIs that are integrated with key strategic partners. Our solutions need to scale across millions of such interactions, working with petabyte-plus data, integrating with various other APIs in real time and yet providing high availability and configurability to the business. In PayPal, we develop massively scalable, distributed software systems that require high availability to our business. To achieve this, we are always looking at advances in technology and science and tying those back to business needs. We are always looking for strong technologists who are passionate to solve large scale highly complex computer engineering problems, in a repeatable and maintainable way.

This position includes design and implementation of enterprise-level compliance applications to manage risk exposures as a result of fraudulent activities.
The candidate will work with peers in development, product management to solve complex software engineering problems and proactively propose solutions to address technical challenges and business requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a high-performing engineering team.
  • Develop trusted partnerships with developers, partners, and architecture leaders to drive optimized platform product solutions.
  • Partner with Product and Program stakeholders to build and maintain Product roadmap for the team.
  • Lead complex technical and strategic discussions that involve multiple personas including engineering, architect, product, and other stakeholders.
  • Drive a results-oriented culture with a strong focus on engineering excellence, execution, and craftsmanship as a Customer Champion.
  • Drive effective, mature Agile practices and continuous execution improvements within your teams.
  • Manage stakeholder planning, collaboration and communications ensuring key outcomes.
  • Recruit, coach, and mentor the best engineering and talent management.
  • Build, coach, and manage a strong team of engineers that set the standard and can up-level the overall talent of the extended organization.
  • Anticipate and aggressively remove obstacles that slow down or prevent products and programs from delivering on product and program objectives.
  • Balance urgent and effective action, commitment to excellence, and taking the initiative to resolve problems; holds internal stakeholders accountable where appropriate.
  • Effective management and collaboration with geographically distributed teams.



Basic Qualifications
• BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or related practical experience.
• 2+ years’ experience in leading/managing team of engineers.
• 5+ years’ experience programming in Java, JavaScript,  Python, XML, JSON, Node.js, React.

• 5+ years’ experience in building RESTful services.

• Experience in Oracle, Hadoop, NoSQL databases.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience building and running in production (24x7 environments) distributed large-scale systems.
• Experience in developing tools, infrastructure or platforms.
• Experience hiring, mentoring, coaching and developing top engineering talent.
• Successful track record of managing teams of engineers and project management skills.
• Strong management skills for planning and executing complex multi-team initiatives.
• Experience with industry, open-source projects and/or academic research in data management, relational databases, and/or large-data, parallel and distributed systems.
