As an Engineering Manager, you will manage skilled and creative Platform Engineers (5-6). The mission of the Platform & DevEx team is to build a world-class Internal Developer Platform (IDP) and exceptional developer experience for both our internal engineering teams and external integration partners. You will be a hands-on leader who grows high-performing teams & individuals, ensures goal attainment, and aligns technical excellence with business goals.
You’ll work closely with your teams to make Platform-as-a-product decisions, prioritize work, ship features, and promote an engineering culture of knowledge sharing and mentorship. You’ll drive company-wide initiatives focusing on self-service capabilities, API design, and reducing cognitive load for developers, while also jumping in to help solve architectural challenges.
Your tasks
- Team Leadership and Development: Manage engineering teams, providing leadership, mentorship, salary & performance reviews, and support their success and professional growth
- Technical Vision and Strategy: Partner closely with engineering leadership to shape the engineering culture and align platform strategies with broader business goals. Champion the "Platform as a Product" mindset
- Developer Experience (DevEx): Drive the strategy and implementation of tools and processes that empower developers. Focus on our internal developer portal (Backstage), seamless API Gateways (Tyk), and optimizing the golden paths for software delivery
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Act as an advocate for internal and external developers, conducting product discovery, and gathering feedback to continuously iterate and improve our PayOS ecosystem
Your experiences
- Proven track record of hiring & managing teams that have shipped and operated developer tools, APIs, or internal developer platforms (IDP)
- Multiple years of hands-on experience in software or platform engineering
- Deep understanding of developer experience (DevEx) principles and treating platforms as products
- Ability to thrive in a fast-changing, high-paced environment
- Clear and persuasive writing and in-person communication in English, German is an advantage
- Bonus: Successfully worked with tools like Backstage, API Gateways, or cloud-native CI/CD ecosystems
- Bonus: Familiarity with DORA metrics and Team Topologies
