About The Role:

Directors of Software Engineering at PayIt are smart, mission-driven, and afforded a high degree of responsibility and autonomy. Directors of Software Engineering are expected to expertly lead teams to meet commitments, grow individuals in their careers, and be highly collaborative with adjacent product, design, and client-facing teams.

This role is ideally based out of our Kansas City WHQ; however, highly qualified remote candidates in AZ, AR, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, MI, MO, NC, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, and WI will also be considered.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Build and maintain an organization of 3 or more Software Engineering teams, including high-performing managers and individual contributors.
  • Consume top-level organizational goals and lead the development of Engineering objectives and key results to align and support the business. 
  • Work closely with engineering, product, and senior leaders to define and execute on the product and technical roadmaps, balancing speed of delivery with quality, security, and observability.
  • Lead development of engineering strategy to include technical roadmaps and intentional decisions around vendor and tech stack selections.
  • Guide Engineering Managers through the process of screening, interviewing, and hiring new talent.
  • Set goals with and provide regular, constructive feedback to Engineering Managers and mentor them in doing the same for their team members.
  • Collaboratively set and ensure adherence to Engineering standards and processes.
  • Coach teams to think strategically and make informed recommendations on how to prioritize and solve complex problems. 

What You’ll Need To Have:

  • 10+ years experience working on distributed software systems. 
  • 6+ years of experience leading teams and managing individual contributors. 
  • Intrinsic motivation to develop people and influence outcomes.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, and teamwork skills. 
  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to manage conflicts with individuals and teams. 
  • Deep understanding of best practices and industry standards for performance, encryption, security, scalability, accessibility, and availability in distributed systems.
  • Proven ability to influence decisions while respecting individual motivations and business objectives.
  • Interest in innovating within the global payments industry.

Bonus Points For:

  • A proven history of managing successful, autonomous development teams. 
  • Experience managing remote and/or hybrid engineering organizations.
  • An ability to attract talented engineers from an established network of professionals
  • Experience with financial, accounting, or payments systems.
  • Experience building reliable systems that handle large transactional volume.
Annual Salary Range:
$170,000$230,000 USD
