Owkin is building the first universal AI Operating System called K to lay the foundation for Biological Artificial Superintelligence (BASI). This OS integrates a suite of AI agents that decode complex biology, accelerate research, and dramatically increase productivity. Acting as copilots, Owkin K agents will automate drug discovery and diagnostics and power next-gen pharma companies.

About the role:
This position is based in Paris, France. Ideally you are able to join the team 7th April 2025 for 5 - 6 months. Please submit your CV in English.
At Owkin, we have developed several medical imaging pipelines to handle a wide range of imaging modalities across different therapeutic areas (oncology, immuno-inflammation, cardiovascular diseases and neurology). These pipelines play a key role in our pharmaceutical projects, where the features they extract are used to build models for various tasks, such as predicting treatment responses or grouping populations based on prognosis.
The goal of the internship will be to further develop our Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) pipelines. Specifically, you will have the opportunity to further develop our 3D-segmentation algorithms by expanding the list of supported anatomical structures. Additionally, you will also contribute to our effort to develop indication-specific models, thus directly contributing to the success of our current pharma projects.
Your work will be integrated in Owkin’s technical stack, and will directly contribute to improving Owkin’s internal capabilities in our journey to 1) discover new targets, 2) subtype patients more accurately, 3) match the right treatment for the right patient and 4) build more reliable diagnostic tools.
In particular, you will:
As your main missions, you will:
- Collaborate closely with, and receive mentorship from, the other members of the R&D team;
- Conduct a preliminary literature review on the use of 3D segmentation models for radiology (MRI), in order to inform the team towards the likely most relevant solution, and implement the corresponding models.
- Implement a validation framework and assess the performance of your models.
- Adhere to Owkin’s code quality standards, and be responsible for the re-usability of your implementations.
- Report your detailed findings to the group.
About you
Required qualifications / experience:
- You are enrolled in a master degree in mathematics, statistics, biomedical engineering, computer science or related field
- Authorization to work legally in France
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Proficient in Python and experience with a DL framework (e.g., Pytorch)
- Experience in computer vision
- Additional experience either in medical imaging or 3D imaging would be a plus
- Interest in medical imaging applications
- Strong communication skills
- Good team player
Preferred qualifications/bonus:
- Experience (previous internship, project, kaggle, etc.) in ML for healthcare applications
- Experience (previous internship, project, kaggle, etc.) in computer vision applications
