Job Description

About Pratt Miller, an Oshkosh company

Pratt Miller is a product development company in motorsports, defense, and mobility industries providing clients with product engineering and low-volume production solutions. Our range of research & development, engineering, prototype manufacturing, test & validation, and low-rate production capability help our customers bring their high-quality products to market faster.

The Electronics Lab (Elab) Technician III utilizes advanced technical skills, tools, and extensive knowledge of defined standard operating procedures to complete assignments with minimal supervision. This role provides guidance and instruction to less experienced technicians and applies practical experience to determine effective build methods and develop improved work processes.

This position supports the development of prototype and concept vehicles, with a strong focus on vehicle electrification, autonomous vehicle systems, and unmanned vehicle platforms. The Elab Technician III works closely with engineering teams to construct, test, troubleshoot, and refine electrical systems used in advanced vehicle development programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS:  Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Interpret engineering schematics, pin schedules, and wiring loom drawings to construct high-quality wiring harnesses.
  • Understand and follow IPC/WHMA-A-620 (IPC 620C) wire harness build processes and standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized electronics lab environment.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on electronics lab work products to ensure compliance with engineering requirements and quality standards.
  • Use and train others on common electronics tools including voltmeters, soldering irons, and standard hand tools.
  • Apply knowledge of motorsports or military-spec wiring loom build techniques and associated components.
  • Manage and procure electronics lab inventory and materials.
  • Troubleshoot wiring harnesses and electrical assemblies.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Identify color-coded wires and labeling systems used in electrical harness assemblies.
  • Work collaboratively in small teams to develop practical solutions to engineering challenges.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical theory and electronic system concepts to build and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Update and “redline” wiring harness diagrams and manufacturing documentation in collaboration with engineering teams.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required.

  • Participate in ongoing education and training.
  • Provide feedback on product needs, build processes, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Exhibit attention to detail, dependability, initiative, and pride in work.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience in electronic harness build, testing, or repair.

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • MMilitary-spec (Mil-Spec) harness build experience preferred.
  • Printed circuit board assembly and repair experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to solve engineering challenges.
  • Experience working on vehicles and equipment, including installation of electrical components and wiring directly onto vehicles in varied positions (including overhead, underneath, and confined spaces).
  • High-voltage system safety experience.
  • General knowledge of automotive systems including steering, brakes, powertrain, and lighting systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical testing methods and associated diagnostic equipment.
  • Understanding of vehicle communication networks such as CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
  • Understanding of embedded control systems and electronic components.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position requires occasional to frequent moderate physical activity. Work may include standing, bending, reaching, lifting components or tools, and working in confined spaces or around vehicles and equipment.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Daytime schedule Monday through Friday.
  • Infrequent evening or weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Minimal travel may be required to support on-site customer work.
