The System Engineer I provides support to intermediate and senior systems engineers in the development of electro-optical-mechanical and software medical device solutions throughout the product development life cycle including manufacturing and servicing activities. The System Engineer I brings a minimum of two years of recent experience (gained during industry and/or academic experience) gathering requirements and preparing specifications for technical solutions; designing and conducting verification and validation testing; and working in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The System Engineer I is a vital member of multidisciplinary teams, contributes to the design of complex solutions and is relied upon to independently conduct assigned tasks and project components within program constrains. The engineer thrives in an environment of uncertainty and ambiguity where there is no “one size fits all” solution and systems engineering approaches are adapted to suit program requirements. This position suits candidates who are passionate about pursuing a career in medical device development.
What will your duties and responsibilities be?
The following are the essential functions of this position. This position may be responsible for performing additional duties as tasks as needed and assigned.
Supports senior systems engineers in the design and development of complex electromechanical-optical medical device technical solutions at all phases of the product development lifecycle.
Gathers technical requirements (e.g. from customers, users, internal stakeholders), conducts research (e.g. literature reviews, quantitative/qualitative analysis, etc.), performs analysis and develops detailed design specifications.
Contributes to the design and development of electro-optical-mechanical or software systems (e.g., block diagrams including: interface, functional, physical architecture, etc.).
Designs and conducts verification and validation testing/experiments and prepares reports.
Determines root causes of product failures in the field
Reviews and approves DHR’s for manufactured products
May travel and conduct complex field servicing activities.
Prepares and maintains documentation (e.g. Design History File).
Contributes to technical, design and phase-gate reviews.
Adheres to the Quality Management System (QMS) and regulatory requirements.
What skills and experience will you need?

Education/Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in electrical/biomedical/software/systems/mechatronic engineering
Experience, Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities:
A minimum of 2 years of recent, related experience (including a combination of industry and/or academic experience)
Experience in designing complex optical systems.
Experience in developing computer vision software algorithms.
Experience gathering requirements and preparing specifications for technical solutions.
Experience designing and conducting verification and validation testing/experiments.
Experience working in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Analytical, research, problem solving and judgement skills.
Teamwork, cooperation and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage own workload and complete work assignments within expected parameters..
