Principal Software Engineer, Platform

Location: Seattle, WA, United States

Responsibilites: 

• Lead engineering and operational management for highly available, large-scale Oracle database fleets.

• Drive Oracle 19c performance analysis, complex tuning, diagnostics, and reliability improvements.

• Design and implement database architecture, access methods, allocation strategies, validation controls, protection, and security standards.

• Build scalable fleet-management automation and tooling using Python and/or Shell scripting.

• Lead technical analysis for database upgrades, patches, enhancements, and architectural changes.

• Define long-range database capacity, availability, and operational requirements with OCI service owners.

• Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and prevention initiatives for complex production issues.

• Mentor engineers, review designs and code, and establish operational best practices and runbooks.

• Collaborate with Compute, Storage, Networking, Governance, and other OCI teams to deliver resilient cloud services.

  Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• 6–8 years of Oracle Database Engineering, Administration, SRE experience.

• Deep expertise with Oracle 19c, including RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, ASM, SQL optimization, performance diagnostics, and HA/DR design.

• Strong Python and/or Shell scripting experience for automation, diagnostics, monitoring, and operational tooling.

• Demonstrated experience leading complex database changes, upgrades, and reliability initiatives.

• Strong understanding of database security, observability, capacity planning, and cloud-scale operations.

• Proven technical leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• Excellent written and spoken English, critical thinking, and ability to operate effectively in a demanding environment.

  Leads platform projects crossing multiple teams, evolving runtimes or middleware patterns for interoperability and multi-tenant scale. Diagnoses and resolves complex cross-service issues; enforces versioning, compatibility, and safe rollout practices. Drives observability standards, capacity planning, and resilience patterns across several workloads. Produces migration guides and adoption playbooks that raise ecosystem consistency and developer experience.
