The JVM Development Team

The Java Virtual Machine Development Team is responsible for the development and maintenance of the virtual execution environment running the Java platform. The team excels in areas ranging from Java Virtual Machine specification adherence, memory allocation, garbage collection, signals, synchronization & locking to JIT compilers, JNI, JFR, and threading. The team works closely with Quality Engineering, Performance Engineering, Customer Support, and other JPG teams to ensure high performance on all supported platforms and stays up-to-date on current and future hardware.The team is looking for C++ Developers for all areas of the JVM. In this creative role, you will help innovate and implement the next generation of the Java runtime. You will work on high profile projects. Additional job responsibilities include working with external developers on OpenJDK, customers, and partners on defects and feature improvement requests for future releases.
 

Responsibilities
- Design and deliver new features with a strong focus on quality in high-profile projects
- Deliver stable and secure features and bug fixes in a timely fashion
- Take initiatives to debug and solve difficult issues
- Communicate and collaborate with teammates within Oracle and the OpenJDK community
- Take responsibility for the code base through active participation in design discussions and code reviews
- Lead through example and mentor junior developers
 

Skills & Experience
- BS/MS degree in CS, EE, or equivalent
- 10+ years of software development experience
- Proficiency with C++, assembly language, and Java programming
- An understanding of the Java Virtual Machine Specification
- Experience with software engineering practices including code reviews, coding standards, source control management, build processes, testing and continuous integration
- Strong on data structures, algorithms, performance tuning, threading and concurrency
- Experience with bytecode engineering and JVMTI is a plus
- Experience with debugging in multi-platform environments (Windows, Linux, Mac) is a plus
- Experience with implementing Java Virtual Machine features is a plus
- Familiarity with performance engineering, such as benchmarking, optimization work
- Familiarity with test automation tools and practices (unit and system level automation)
- Familiarity with profiling and monitoring such as designing and implementing APM systems
- Excellent communication skill
